Hello, everyone. I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I am unaware if there is a better place for this post within the forum, so please forgive me if this topic isn't appropriate here.
Anyways, as the title suggests, I'm looking into getting the Bradford Guardian5 (in 3v). It checks all of my boxes for the qualities that I want in a general woods knife. I am simply trying to decide whether to go with the Full Height Flat Grind or the Sabre Grind for this particular model. I am hard on my knives, but I generally use them for what they were intended to be used for. I plan on using it for mostly slicing, carving, feather-sticking, striking ferro rods, etc. I rarely baton my knives, and when I do, it's because that's my only option at the time. I have used the Mora Garberg and the ESEE 4 (in S35VN as well as the 1095 version) extensively, as well as many others, and after a couple years of experimenting I have narrowed down what I want from a knife. I have come to prefer a FFG, but since I want this to be my do-it-all, medium-sized fixed blade, I am wondering if it's worth going for the SG. This particular model is in 3v, and I am wondering if the SG is going to add any necessary strength to it, since it is already a tough steel to begin with (although they harden it to 60-61, which from what I can tell is not the ideal hardness for this steel).
I would appreciate any input. I am no expert, and I will trust any real world experience from any of you. I am ALSO open to other knife suggestions as well (as long as they meet my criteria), but I am more-so interested in deciding on which grind to get for this particular model. If you do have any other suggestions, this is what I'm looking for:
Fixed blade
Full tang
4-5 inches in cutting edge
Steel with decent toughness and at least moderate corrosion resistance
Ground surface for striking ferro rods (whether that's the spine/choil/tang/etc.)
$300 or less
Also, I prefer Micarta scales, but that's not a make it or break it quality.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
