bradley alias 11

titanium handled framelock folder with a 3 inch blade made for bradley by benchmade

I had an Alias I and an Alias II, both very well made. Super smooth opening and excellent lockup.

Do a search on the reviews forum. STR wrote a very nice review of the Alias not too long ago.

I've had one for about a month now. EDC'd it from the moment it arrived. Love it.

Very smooth opener. Very smooth. It also sounds nice when it opens. A quick 'double-click' sound. The first higher pitched click is the ball bearing detent sliding off the tang, and the second lower pitched click is the lock engaging across the tang. Is that crazy/obsessive enough for you? Thought so. Anyhow... it sounds great.

Came super sharp. Haven't had to sharpen it yet, unsurprisingly. Top quality steel (S30V)

Very attractive, to me at least. That's subjective though.

First impression was 'wow, this thing is really light'. Had not held a titanium handled knife before this one.

The blade fills the handle very well. Mine's the "II" that you're asking about, and there's just less than 1/4 inch of handle beyond the tip of the blade when folded closed. So, no extra metal, yet the handle is still a good size for my hand. It's also very thin (about 3/8"), so it's a very low profile and comfortable in the pocket.

Easy to extract from top watch pocket in jeans when clipped, or bottom edge of suit/slacks pocket seam when clipped there. Clip is moveable for tip up or down carry; take your pick. I've chosen to keep it the way it came: tip down.

Easy to flick open with just the tip of your thumb and easy to close one-handed. I've now also perfected one handed opening and closing with left hand also.

Came from NewGraham knives quite difficult to open, so I backed off the pivot pin just less than an 1/8th of a turn. Now the action is like butter yet there's still no play in the blade pivot. It's very solid indeed. I don't know, but suspect they may have deliberately tightened the pivot at the store knowing it was being shipped through customs (US to Canada) to allow quicker passage if it was opened and inspected. At least that's what I've heard allusions to on this forum anyhow.

Overall, zero comlaints about this knife. I love it, and have retired my former EDC (Delica, for 10 years +) to lesser duties. I can recommend purchasing one whether you want to use the hell out of it (it's been called very rugged and strong by others, and I'd definitely call it that too) or just have a nice looking folder for around the office.

I've been eyeballing the Alias II as well. I like the BT model with the G10 scales. I just got a new Small Sebenza last week:D and this week I got laid off:grumpy: So I may have to part with Sebe:mad:
I am thinking about a trade(AliasII) +cash for the Sebe. I hate to do it but I need to free up a couple hundred bucks to make a couple bike payments while I'm off. From what I'm reading the Alias, while it is no Sebenza, it is no slouch either. STR did an excellent review, which is helping with making a decision one way or the other.

I recently got one of the LE versions with the blue handles and I really like it. While I'll admit it isn't as nice as a Sebenza, IMO it's more than half the knife that the Seb is for half the price. I would recommend one to someone who doesn't have a Ti handled framelock, but doesn't want to spend $300+ for their first one.

^^ 'welcome. :)

Incidentalist and splitshot1000... lemme know if yours came with a tight pivot, 'k? I don't know where you ordered it from, but still...

If so, don't fret. Just hit it with the torx bit and you'll be set.

On that note, I've seen some people post that the blade pivot on the Alias is a #9 torx bit. The 9 will certainly do it, but the #10 is a snugger fit. That makes it a #10, in my books. I guess it doesn't matter, either way. If you were reefing it down really hard you might strip the screwhead slot with a #9 though. Mind you, to get in that danger zone, you'd be aiming to tighten your knife to an inoperable degree.

We generally snug down the pivot on Canadian orders.
If left as adjusted at factory, few would make it across the border.

Well, I got a Alias II on a trade (Plain Ti scales with CE). I liked it so much, I'm keeping that & traded the Seb for a Strider to check that out.

So, if you have to because of money, I think you'll be pleased with the Alias II. It's not a Seb, but it's definitely not half the knife the Seb is. I'd say the Alias II is about 85% what the Seb is. The Alias's phosphor/bronze washer is quite a bit smaller than the Seb's & of course it doesn't have the pivot like the Seb. I found the Seb to be a little smooth to open. Lock & closing seemed the same.

The Sebs probably a little more tougher, but the Alias is definitely a nice knife, & I think it's nicer than the B/M Skirmish line (IMHO, of course).

Thanks for the comparison. As it stands I'm going to have to put the Seb on the market to raise a few bucks. Hopefully i can find a trade for an Alias II, since the size is perfect for an EDC for me.
