So I got a package in the mail from a major online retailer, needless to say I'm NOT happy with it, as soon as I pulled it out of the sleeve I could see blade centering was way off in fact the blade was all the way touching the non locking side scale. I'm not going to screw with it, I think I'll just send it back for a Spyderco Sage 2 Titanium, pretty sure I'll be happy with it as with all of my Spyderco's:(

Did you try tightening the pivot screw or loosening it up? If it is way to loose that could be why it is sitting so far over. Maybe give that a shot before sending it back. I do however understand the frustration of opening up a knife and being disappointed upon opening it. But I at least usually try and solve the problem.

In fact there is so much play in the blade when its closed and pivot tight its ridiculous

Try a replacement first maybe - you felt good about the Alias at one point :)

Fit and finish on a knife of that price and caliber should be damn near perfect! Pride of workmanship is starting to slip in all aspects of products we buy. I dont have a bradley but I am assuming it's American made? Send it back for a full refund, then call the manufacturer and express your disgust at what left their factory even after somebody inspected. If you can, save the money and buy a custom...the experience and product is leaps and bounds above. Believe me there are guys out there that are very talented and will come close to prices of high end production knives. I sympathize with you, nothings worse when buying a knife to have it arrive with an offcenter blade, play in all directions and to top it off the pivot screw is locked down tight.....all of those things add up to a product that is GARBAGE!

Yes sometimes I will attempt an adjustment, but with that company, name and price all you should have to do is enjoy the product.

Send er back!! No excuses for that!! I ve been thinking of adding a bradley to my collection for some time now. Dont think i will now. Imagine if a small seb left CR headquarters with a blade like that?! Wouldnt happen.

Minus the theatrical statements, I agree with the others. At that pricepoint it should be sent back and made right by the manufacturer.

I have a Bradley Alias II and it has none of the problems yours does. It's a solid knife. Send that one back.

Benchmade usually does a better job than that. Still - if the pivot screw is 'tight' - and it still has play - and the blade tip end is against the non-lock liner - it could have been assembled insufficiently tightened but with with blue Loctite. To break the blue Loctite's weak bond will take 5-10 seconds application of a clean hot soldering pencil's tip on the Torxx head of the pivot screw - use only a soldering pencil in the 25W range - then loosen/tighten as required. In your case, tightening it should center the blade - with centering coinciding with proper pivot tightness. You could exchange it for another example. Benchmade knives are generally pretty functional, whether made for themselves or Bradley.

I can't speak for the Bradley (though your experience is unacceptable), but I can wholeheartedly endorse the Sage 2. It's a beautiful knife and I prefer it in most salient respects to its inspiration, the much costlier Sebenza. Buy without hesitation!

Thanks for everyones info. I have a Sebenza on the way and I haven't had any of my Spydies give me any problems therefore I asked the supplier and he asked that I not mess with it just pack it up and send it back. I asked for them to send me a sage 2 instead

That's odd. I got a Bradley Alias I maybe two years ago (the one with the 3.6" blade, larger standard model) and the fit and finish was absolutely flawless. With the pivot screw about 1/8th of a turn from full tight, there was zero horizontal or vertical blade play, the ball detent required the perfect amount of pressure to swing out, lock-up on the framelock was spot-on, and it was smooth as butter. It was a stunning knife, and a great work knife - i cut up more boxes than I can remember and the stone-washed blade finish and Ti handles remained unscratched. Traded it away a few days ago because I'd rather have new knives than hold onto the same ones forever but I really liked it - I would give it one more try, man. They are top-notch stuff.

I recently received a Bradley Alias 2, and it is perfect in every way. It's so good that it shocked me.
These are made by Benchmade for Bradley, and the general consensus is that they typically exceed Blue Class manufacturing standards.
If you have problems like you describe, then it should be sent back, or sent to Bradley so they can send it to Benchmade for warranty work.
I love mine, and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Try unscrewing the pivot and re-setting it. This has worked on some Bradleys and Benchmades in the past. If not, Benchmade has a lifetime warranty and their customer service has always been top notch in my experience, give them a call. They will make it right for you. Otherwise, the Alias is a pretty nice knife and all of mine have been near-Sebenza in overall quality! :)
