Bradley Alias and Selling Question

First, I'm looking into the Bradley Alias series and am having some trouble deciding between the 1 and 2. It seems the 2 shot for a more EDC knife with it's smaller size, but the 1 honestly isn't too much bigger. Would I regret having chosen the smaller blade, or will the extra length in my pocket really bother me? I'd like to hear what the community has to say about these knives. This is going to be an EDC blade.

This is my first post here and I hope it will be the first of many!

Cheers, Kyle

First of all, welcome! I can't speak much for the Alias II (smaller one), but have an Alias I and I would say it's just about the right size for me. I am only 5'7", slim frame and it doesn't bother me at all.

Welcome to BF. I have owned both the I and II and for me the I was a better size for EDC. The II was a little too small but still a good solid EDC choice for many.

For comparison here is the I with a Spyderco Military.

Really not too big in my estimation and I don't think you would notice the extra length in the pocket.

Both are great knives. Good luck choosing.

Well, let me help you out with what I can.

I would say get the Alias 1 over the Alias 2. However, only you can really know, since it's up to you to decide what's comfortable. In my opinion, they range around the same price, so I would prefer getting the bigger blade. The Alias 2 was small in my hands (medium/large hands).

As for selling, you will need to upgrade your account. You can see everything in the "Knife Exchange" forum. The Mayhem should be able to pay off the new Alias I.

I have the Alias2 and its enough for edc. Does everything I need it to just fine. But i dont think the bigger blade for the aliasI would bother either.

I think the most important factor for choosing blade size is hand size. You want a knife that is just big enough for a comfortable grip. If you have small hands or like a three finger grip, the smaller one will be a better edc. Your pockets can probably fit both so size won't make a big difference.

I have an Alias I and think its well made and nicely proportioned. I prefer my light plastic or g10 knives for edc though.

Gills, what are some common EDC knifes you currently use? Having some size/style comparisons may help give people an idea of what you're looking for with your next purchase.

I have an Alias 1 and "average" sized hands I guess. :) I think the knife has a great feel to it, the blade shape and size feel ample without being overbearing for EDC.

For reference, I've recently EDC'd a Rat Model-1, BM 710, BM Griptilian, the Alias 1 feels around this same size range in the pocket and hand to me. My first Endura (I know, long overdue) arrives today, so I could have some comparisons later on that as well.

I used to carry a BM Opportunist, which looks to be about the same open/closed/blade measurements as the Alias 2. For me, this was a little small in the hand, although the blade length was plenty for my EDC (office, home, some warehouse time).

Hope that helps!

I started out with the larger one. I EDC that knife and loved it. After a year or so I bought the smaller alias II. When I bought the II I intended it to be my dress knife. Now as I type this I have the II clipped to my waistband. The smaller size is really nice when around people that don't care much for knives. I have found that the II is large enough to do pretty much anything I need from an EDC folder. It is nice to have the larger I, but as of recently it has been sitting in it's box.

I do not think you will be unhappy with either. For what it's worth, I have large hands and don't find the II too small.

Here are a few pictures of the two.

Best of luck,
John

how do the alias 1's lockup? pretty solid? any play just curious im thinking about picking one up!

I have the Alias II and I love it. However, I would get the larger one. Don't get me wrong the II is great BUT I tend to like bigger knives. The Alias II as been through a lot with me, swimming, hiking, ROTC FTX's and it has stood up thru everything. But like I said, when it comes down to it, having a larger knife is a plus (at least for me).

I almost forgot, the Alias II has a number of times folded out of my pocket during times of heavy activity. So if you are going to be really active, I would further recommend the bigger one.

The lock up on my alias II has always been solid as long as the pivot screw is tighten correctly.

I guess this is my only gripe about my alias. and that is the pivot screw has a very small "sweet spot." Just a hair to the right and its too tight; the deployment is too slow. Or just a hair to the left and its too loose and the lock up sucks. But mine is really old and I think a bit of loctite will do the trick.

But all and all, I really love my alias. Gotten a lot of use and performance out of it over the years.

Lockup is great for both Alias I and II, the only issue that I'm having is - just as The Queen mentioned - weak detent. Alias I also folded out a couple of times (and cut myself once) in my pocket. It is a good knife, but the detent is an issue to have is as an EDC unless you want to have it in a pouch.
