Hello STR,

I have a new Bradley Alias II le that looks like the one below. I would really like to get the blade stripped and blasted, the thumb stud switched out and a low rider clip installed. I am also considering having the G10 on the one side replaced with a brown g10.

Talk to you soon,

I can do most of that for you no problem. However I am trying to get away from doing the handle scale thing anymore. I use G10 only sparingly these days and although I have done an occasional handle scale replacement in the past each time I do these things it stirs up my asthma problems. That last NRG handle I did was nice but the dust really bothered me for days after that job was finished.

So, I'm trying to avoid the high sanding type jobs requiring a lot of finishing anymore. If I were to do those it would have to be in the summer time when I can open the barn doors and turn on all the fans in the shop to vent that dust out. During the closed door times its particularly hard on me. I hope you understand.

Also, I have no brown G10 and have never even seen it on the lists of the inventories where I order mine.

I do have a circle of friends that do those type jobs and quite well so I could easily forward it to them to do the scale work for you in that event. Dirk, (Oupa) can knock that out for you better than I can anyway as far as the final finish.

I do ask that you read post number one in my low rider pocket clip thread (the bold print part especially) which is a sticky at the top of the page. Once you have the routine down then you can mail to me at your convenience.

All my low riders are priced the same and that info is there. On the blasting of the blade. I can do that but the blade will need resharpened after. So thats another $20 to do all that will need. I usually have to make several passes on those blades to get it all stripped depending on how good the finish is. Some are particularly troublesome while others almost peel right off. Since I have not done that one before I don't know what to expect.

Also, from the looks of that knife if I'm seeing it right, it appears a low rider will at least partially if not fully block the lanyard hole. Just FYI.

Thanks.

Hi,
Thats ok I understand about the handle scales, inhaling particles like that in a closed enviorment is dangerous. I'll scrap the brown g10 but some green canvas would be sweet, should I contact your friend about it?

So i'm straight on the clip, I read the sticky. As for blocking the lanyard hole is there any way to just have it little lower sort of inbetween the reg and low and not block the hole (for tip up carry)?

Also about the thumbstud could that be replaced with a regular blasted one? The one that it comes with is also coated and is a little pointy so I figured a new one would be nice.

Thanks for your time,
Chris

Hello, I was wondering what you think of Bradley knives. I have never handled one, and have only seen them online. How is the fit and finish, lock up, etc.

I am not sure on the stud. Maybe. I'll have to wait to see it in hand to know that.

STR

Thats cool, I guess we'll see what happens with the stud. So should I just send a MO for the blasting and the clip and then just send another one if you end up replacing the stud? Sorry for all the questions, I couldn't find an answer in the other threads.

Have a nice weekend,
Chris

No no. Just send the knife for now. I'll deal with all thatn money business after we know what we are doing. With knives I've never worked on before and am basically in the dark about I really don't like taking anything up fron on them even if I can get them turned right back around and out of here completed.

Oh, on Micarta and G10. These are materials I work with but I buy the 1/8" thickness sheets on that so I can reduce the amount of sanding to a minimum when I have to work it. The problem is that in the winter months its hard for me to get that dust out of the shop so I try to avoid it mostly except for the summer when I can open the place up and vent it well. I don't mind doing some if the sanding is minimal though. I can vent the place for a few minutes for a little but a lot? If I leave the doors open too long my compressor blows fuses once the oil gets thick and stuff like that so I try to keep the temp comfortable in the shop mainly for that and my other equipment with oil in it.

But its also my own comfort level and the fact that it takes a while to get it cozy in there again. There is a good chance I can do it all but without ever having seen it to actually know what I'm up against I have a hard time giving you a better answer than that until its here in my hands. Once its here we'll go from there. Thanks

Hello, I was wondering what you think of Bradley knives. I have never handled one, and have only seen them online. How is the fit and finish, lock up, etc.

they are solid knives-great lock up,good fit and finish-smooth opening-

a little overpriced imho-by maybe 20-30 bucks

Yep, the lock up is solid and the fit and finish is on or beyond par with the Benchmades/spyderco's that I have handled. I was excited to see the new version with the G10 on one side, I like Ti or other metal scales but they get a little too slippery for me sometimes. I didn't think it was overpriced, the msrp is high but I found it for a lot less This little knife will be a good city carry for me :)

its 20-30 bucks more than a zdp mini cyclone-thats why i say too much-

for me the benchmark for 150$ and under knives is the zdp mini -

Thank you for the info, I will check out on of those. They look pretty solid. I carry a Mini Sere, and a Native. I guess a Alias II would be good too.

Man thats too much of a coincidence, The zdp mini cyclone was the other knife I was considering :) I went with the Bradley for a few reasons, it has a shorter blade length and slimmer blade shape, also I have never used a knife with the speed safe mechanism and I really don't care for assisted opening knives. I know the mini cyclone has the switch but I think if I did get one (I probably will) I would want to take oiut the spring. Aside from that I like zdp but I'm not crazy about it. I have a caly 3 zdp I have been carrying since it came out, I love the knife but I prefer s30v for ease of sharpening.

I've been looking these knives over and must admit they flew below my radar until you brought them to my attention. I am anxious to see yours and depending on how I feel about it I may end up with one. Where did you get yours?

STR

Thanks. I may just have to snag one of them. I didn't even know Fred sold them. I looked there last night and didn't see Bradley cutlery even listed on his site.

I kind of want the all titanium model though but its a bit more money and I don't see that Fred sells it at knifeoutlet so I may have to get it someplace else.

Tell me this though. Is there some texturing to the G10 to give a little better thumb purchase on the non lock side to extract the folder?

Check again, he has both Ti models in pe and ce just select the one you want from the drop down menu.

The G10 is textured and pretty grippy, there are some good pics at New Grahm.
