Bradley Alias vs. Benchmade 707...?

I'm pretty sure it'll be the Alias, but am second guessing myself about perhaps buying the Sequel instead. I figure I've got until Sunday night to make up my mind as I'll be ordering it from NewGraham either way and they won't be mailing anything out 'til Monday anyhow.

I like the blade profile of both these knives, and they're similar enough in my books, but cannot really decide which to get. I've never had an axis lock knife, and am quite impressed with the frame-lock on my Chive... see? Indecision. Dammit all.

Anyone got any comments to help tip the scales?

thanks very much, and have a great weekend.

edit: I should add, this will be my EDC, replacing my 1st gen Delica which I've stuck with for the last decade. The Delica gets sharpened weekly and often quite abused. The little black chive is normally in the little jeans pocket, and used for smaller duty stuff (slivers, mail, etc...). I reckon the chive may get 'demoted' to keychain knife after this new purchase, and the Alias or Sequel will get the watch pocket seat. Figure if I keep it down with the keys and stuff it'll get scratched to hell, which never mattered with the delica.

thanks.

Never played with an Alias. I've always like the looks of the of the 707, but I never realize how small the handle was until I got one in my hand. There was barely any room for my pinky. I completely lost any interest because of that. If not for the small handle, I'd really like that knife.

Although I have never looked at a Bradley in person, I am sure its a quality knife, its made by Benchmade... The axis lock is great. Very solid locking. I have never had a problem with them, and I have been using them hard for about 6 or 7 years. The Bradley is a really nice looking knife in the pics I have seen.

Kaizen is right, the BM 707 while being a really great little knife is just that...little, especially in the handle dept. There are those who feel the BM 710 is a tad too big, but I'm one of those who feel the 707 is just too small.

The Bradley Alias I and II are relative in size to the Large and small Sebenzas by Chris Reeve respectively. I know many here would say skip the Alias and go for the Sebenza. True, the Seb is an incredible knife, but I picked up a Bradley Alias I a while back, and it also is an awesome folder, for quite a bit less money as well. You can find them for around $200.

To get to the point, if your question is just choosing between the BM 707 and a Bradley Alias, either large or small, i'd say go with the Bradley by a long shot, and that's coming from a huge Benchmade fan.

Good luck,
Jon

Both knives are made by Benchmade, lol, but I agree 100% the Bradley is an upscale Benchmade, so you just can't go wrong...

True, true...kinda like a toyota and a lexus maybe?? I should have been clearer on that.:o

Thanks for pointing it out.

I have a BM 707 which I love. It is a great knife but it is a medium size to small knife. I have large hands but it works great for me. I use three fingers on the handle and the index finger on top of the blade. It is so light and strong you never know you are carrying it. I also own a large sebenza regular, a classic Sebenza and a mnandi. The CRK are great knives and I have handled an Alias and it was nice. Some people think the Alias is a better slicer. My small classic Sebenza is not as good as a slicer as my Large Sebenza. I think CRK is putting a different grind or bevel on the newer knives as my large Sebenza is about six years old and is BG42 steel. You might want to look at the CalyIII as it is great. I have both the G10 and Carbon fiber ZDP189. Also, Kershaw has some great choices now. Good luck.

Good points guys, and thanks for the size reference too! I've got pretty large hands so the handle size might be an issue for me. Am looking at the Alias 2 though, as opposed to the larger 1, due to the fact that it's a little more 'office friendly' and will be less of a space-hog in my pocket.

Looking forward to more on this. The small handle alone may be a deal-breaker, but man, that Sequel is one nice looking knife! Plus, I like the speed that I hear you can get those axis-locks open. I have no self-defense concerns with carrying a knife, it's strictly for utilitarian useage, but having it out in a hurry is always nice.

RKH,

Do you think you could post a picture with the:

1. Small Classic Sebenza
2. BM 707
3. Mnandi

I own the first one and have been trying to decide between 2 and 3.

Thanks.

I've only handled an Alias, but I was seriously unimpressed by it it. To me, it really felt cheap, especially when you take the price into consideration. Being that I EDC a Small Seb, I directly compared it to that(willing to acknowledge bias). The Alias just felt fragile to me once it was in my hand, eventhough I did like its' looks. I also had a Sequel and have regretted selling it very much. The Axis Lock was amazing and I loved the small size. The 707 has a lot of blade relative to the handle, something I consider a plus. If you're planning on putting it to use, I'd go for the Sequel. I'll be getting another Sequel for sure, likely my next knife purchase.

I agree! I own a 707-D2 and EDC'd it for about 6 months, prior to going to a Seb. The 707 is a high quality solid knife for daily tasks. The axis is great and may be opened with either hand. If adjusted correctly, the 707 may even be 'flipped' out by holding the axis back. I had mine like that initially, but decided a smooth, even thumb opening was wnat I wanted.

Sorry don't own the Bradly.

Thank you very much for the feedback guys.

I ordered an Alias 2 from Newgraham this morning. Now the frustrating wait begins.

Have a great Sunday, and thanks again for taking the time to post.

Well I got the Alias yesterday in the mail. I am just loving this little knife. NewGraham shipped quickly and now there's also a nifty little fridge magnet/bandaid dispenser with their contact info on it stuck to my fridge. Great little giveaway idea if I ever saw one!

They were also thoughtful enough to tighten the heck out of the pivot so there would be no hangups at customs (my assumption anyway).

Thanks again for your guy's feedback.
