Hey guys,

I got my emerson horseman to hair whittling sharp today so of course I have to post about that

It's been reprofiled a while back to a V-edge, I just didn't like the semi chisel thing, and was very sharp, but not hair whittling sharp. The only thing I did to get it this far was stropping it with 6 micron dmt diapaste, then 3 micron and then 1 micron. The previous sharpenings were done on japanese waterstones (naniwa, up to 10K) and a Chromium oxide coated strop. The dmt diapastes are much better imo and they are getting me highly polished edges and hair whittling sharpness

It's the same horseman I did a takedown review on on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZETWJk4T4GI

here's the pics

God, that's such a lame edge. Pshhhh (gives an unsatisfied look to my own horseman)

Wow, that's a very nice edge. I haven't heard about the diapaste, what's this thing, and how do you handle this stuff? If it's not too expensive I want to have a go myself. Thanks.

lol, yeah that's how I look to all my edges now if they don't whittle :)

it's a stropping paste by the dmt company.
It's available in sizes of 6, 3 and 1 micron.
if you apply each paste (it comes in a syringe thing) to a separate surface, like leather or balsa/mdf wood, you are able to move the knife edge trailing over it, thereby stropping it and refining and polishing the edge. I got all 3 pastes for around 22$ online

Thanks zyhano for your reply; may I know what do you usually use to sharpen your knives?

yeah sure bchan, I've started using the dmt company's products alot recently. dmt diafolds and dmt benchstones, for stropping, the dmt diapastes.
For small folder sharpening I use the dmt diafolds followed by stropping on leather with the diapastes.
for fixed blades and larger folders I use the dmt benchstones.
I also work with the japanese waterstones on folders, but as I said, most of the time it's now with the dmt's

Thanks Zyhano, it seems that you are pretty satisfied with their products. I will try them out.

I thought I wanted a mini cqc 7 but man, the horseman is growing on me...damn indecisiveness!!

Nice edge, will have to check out those dmt pastes,

I'd like an 8 in a Commander handle. :)
that would be nice, the commander is a bit too large for my liking (unless I was in the military out there, then I'd like it ;))

the horseman rocks!

for those interested, I've posted a demo thread in maintenance, tinkering and embellishment on how to build your own strop with the diamond pastes with loads of pictures and an explanation. It can be found here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=770338

Arrrrrrgh, this thread is so frustrating! Trying to get my hands on a black, plain-edge horseman, to no avail!
I just can't make myself settle for satin or serrations... RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!
