in my 'bragging rights' series, here is the small sebenza 21.

Bragging rights, from hair whittling sharp and beyond, just to show off that you're a show off :D

not the best of pics, so I put an old one in there just for the pleasure for the eyes

First I used dmt diafolds from fine to extra extra fine. Then I took the knife to the strops, leather with dmt paste. The polished edge has been stropped with 6, 3 and 1 micron dmt diapaste to get that high polish and great edge that allows you to whittle free hanging hairs.

The diamond sharpening method works excellent on s30v. stropping goes faster than with Cr2O3 (chromium oxide) and because of the great particle size progression from 6 to 3 to 1 micron the polish is great.
Also, when the edge needs to be restored because of damage (see my 'bent tip on umnumzaan' thread), diamond cuts way faster than other sharpening media. I used to have trouble with s30v because it took forever but since I started using diamonds it's all a lot easier.

as for the dmt pastes: get them. you can find them for around 22$ for all three and it rocks.

awesome! I have the DMT diafolds up to extra extra fine and get a great edge but am in the market for some paste and a strop. Looks like this is the route I am going to take as well. I would also like to know where you recommend getting the paste. Do you mind giving a 'walkthrough' on the stropping process? What kind of strop and how much paste do you apply? Pics?? Thanks!

I bought them online at knifecenter. I'll come back on the stropping. Typing isn't so easy on my ipad. When i have a normal keyboard i'll answer the question

beautiful!
i might look into the pastes.
Do you have 3 separate strops?

And with the diafolds, do you freehand it? do you find it easy to stay consistent with a diafold?

Due to inconsistancy, I have always stayed away from stones and such. I am able to get the same results in the traditional crock sticks. The sharpmaker has taken this for me to a while new level. I do not yet have the diamond stones for the sharpmaker. I do have the brown and white ones that come with it. With the ultra fine rods, I can polish the edge and get it hair popping just like you did with this system. Each has their system that works best for them. I have been using the vintage crock sticks for 25 years now. The sharpmaker for close to 2 years now........For those that are good with these systems, you have some impressive results here.

Yuck. Orange...:barf:

;):)

Nice pics Zyhano! I see you like "splitting hairs"...

Kind regards,

Jos
