I just received a catalog that stated the Brahmas are discontinued, is this true?

It's on the 2018 price sheet Larry Oden emailed out???

Hope it's not, it's kinda my favorite incarnation of the 119, AFTER the black coating stopped coming off on my hands. :)

Looks like the 117 Small Brahma is gone. The January 2018 SMKW catalog labels the 117 Small Brahma as "DISCONTINUED! LAST CHANCE!". The 117 Small Brahma is not in the 2018 BUCK price list but the 119 Brahma still is.

I just literally finished chatting with someone on the online chat from Buck's website, and they said the same thing. It's the 117 Brahma that's discontinued, not the 119.

I alway's wanted to get a set of the Brahma's. I just don't that much about them, are they as nice as they look?

Honestly, I like the stacked leather handles better than the phenolic ones to use, much better grip. Plus, the Brahma models have a lanyard hole on the pommel.

My only complaint, is the black coating on the metal parts rubs off and gets all over everything at first.

i don't care for the sheath they come with. knife is great though. i only have a 119 version....not the other.

I just ran through my usual places and found the best price and ordered a 117, the sheath is a little different on the Brahma models, but in my case it's good, it's one of the few Buck fixed blades that come with a sheath that's ambidextrous for us southpaws.

true and good point. i just dont like the bulk and size of it. prefer the slimmer leaner meaner leather on a 119. i also dislike the newer nighthawk sheath. prefer the slimmer cordura or nylon whatever it was one.

I admit, the Brahma sheath just looks kinda goofy, like it couldn't decide if it wanted to be traditional or military... :)

I hope the 117 doesn't go away all together. The 117 with the traditional handle is an awesome knife. Just the right size.

I don't care for the Brahma, but it is just a personal preference. It took some faith to jump into that market. There are a lot of leather washer handled combat knives out there. Some with real combat pedigrees.

I wouldn't mind seeing a standard form of 119 with stacked leather, but I'm not huge on the looks of the brahma.
Nothing against those who like the brahma but why couldn't they go traditional with it ?

What traditional American made stacked leather hunters are available for an affordable price today besides the case hunters ?

Makael.. Your collection never ceases to amaze me.. You seem to always post knives that hit me in a good way!! Very NICE:DJohn

I'm glad I was able to pick up a 117 last year from Makael who was selling one on this forum. Beautiful knife. I always felt the 119 was just too big for my practical uses and the Brahma gave me something similar in mini size. I also love the sheath. I think it's perfect.
