Hi Bram, I remember on another post you mentioned that you usaully carry 3-inch folders. I was wondering which kinds, serrated or not, and what criteria do you use? Like slashing ability vs stabbing, what do you like in a handle(traction grooves, Kraton, G-10...)?

Any opinions on a knife like the Spyderco Civilian for self defense that is for slashing only, (It makes me feel limited)
Personally I would rather take the Military in serrations but I am predjudiced as it is my all time favorite

Also do you think it is of any importance if blades are black, or non reflective in relation to self defense.

Thank you.

I think you should see what kind of knife feels good to you in your hands and become familer with it, use it, cut with it practice with it eat with it sleep with it carry it see what kind of handle you like it doesn't matter what someone else likes. Don't just try to Be COOL.

i don't really stab especially with a three inch blade but I do tip rip.
I like three inch blades with larger handles..better leverage, stroking with the edge, better snap cutting...
I carry several types...I agree with the idea of carry what feels right and carry something to fit the occasion. accesibility is paramount...
I carry several edged tools at any one time..
I have two hands...
I have no preference over serrations VS straight edge...I use both and 50/50...
I always have several types of eges on me.
Different strokes for different jobs.
I hope that answers your question..

oops..handles.. I Don't like stanless steel..
I use mircarta, G-10, kraton, stag, wood....
I like ergonomic handles..

Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression, I am not trying to be cool. I just like to hear what other people's opinions are on knives and MA. Then I compare to it to what I do and like. I use this to give me different perspectives on basic questions, or assumptions I have. Their answers either change my ideas or reinforce what I belive to be true. Or cause me to do more research to reach a final conclusion.

So it's not like I want to carry the same knifes as Bram or I don't have opinions I just like to see how others think. Most of the posts by Bram seem logical and commonsense. Which is why I asked him and not the whole fourm. Though their are many other peoples opinions I respect that post regulary on here like Snickersee.
Now, take Wolverine, he is too cool but then he is a mutant. With a healing factor and a Admantium skeleton & claws built into his forearms.
Live long and prosper
