Brand loyalty?

Does anyone else find themselves not just buying but using one brand of knife? My last 4 purchases have been from other makers than my regular brand, but not one has ended up being a user yet. Love the new knife's and think they are just as good if not better in some ways but it's been a few weeks and they haven't made thier way into that #1 spot yet? Have I become co-dependent or what? Maybe tommorrow I will make more of a effort to give one a chance.

Let's see...so far I've bought myself 7 Spyderco's and 2 CRKT KFF's (large and small). I have to admit that I have huge brand loyalty towards Spyderco, since from what I've read and seen they really do a great job in designing and in the finish of their production folders. I really love their designs...they seem to have a great knife for every cutting task or situation imaginable. Plus their innovation in using different blade steels for different types of knives makes them more attractive.

As for the CRKT KFF's, I just wanted a tactical knife and saw that this was a great one for a ridiculously low price...couldn't pass this up!

As for getting other brands, I was looking into Benchmade but I'm really not into 99% of their designs. I find the axis lock interesting, but their knives are too plain or unattractive for my taste. The ONLY one I really like is the BM 750 Pinnacle, which I plan on getting sometime, but I figure it's a Mono-lock and not an axis, plus I should probably consider saving up and getting a decorated Sebenza instead. Then again, maybe not for a loooong time

I'd like to see an AFCK with an axis lock...now THAT I would get. Also their Balisong 42 when it comes out.

As for true customs, not in my price range. I would consider getting a Kit Carson model 4, but it's seriously not in my budget. Plus, I'm learning every day...still lots to learn!

Oh yeah, and Spyderco rules!

Loyalty to one brand...not really. If someone else made Spydercos I'd probably buy some of theirs too.

I'm stuck with two -- Microtechs when not at work and Masters of Defense CQD when at work. If Microtech made something like a CQD then I'd only carry Mircotech.

I lean toward MT, and I will always consider their newest model for purchase, without having actually seen it, on faith alone. (We have no knife stores in Madison, so all of my purchases are usually through Josh.) My criteria for purchasing has changed. I have Emerson, not BM, CQC7-B's because I thought they strong, SOCOM's for dazzle and pure sharpness, a Kershaw Boa for the steel and a H-D Buck 110 because it was all gussied up. None of these are good reasons, I just buy what I like.--OKG

I am most loyal to Spyderco. Close to one-third of my collection is Spydies, but right now I am on am Emerson kick.A few months ago,I had no Emerson's. Now I have five with two more on the way and I am considering ordering another.

Hey Sansei (from a Nisei!),

I actively try to avoid "accumulating" from only one brand (or custom maker), but there is something to be said for any company that can produce *consistently* excellent quality. Spyderco certainly works for me in the "affordable" range; they have *earned* my trust and loyalty as a consumer.

There is nothing wrong with brand loyalty. It probably means that there is something about the manufacturers concept and design execution that is appealing to you. If you generally find a company's designs appealing or comfortable, why not stick with them?

Spyderco.

I carry knives from them that I will never probably use, but I just love.

The thumb hole is the thing. And the inherent quality of design, execution and materials.

Old Knife Guy... we're in the same town! I live on the west side. I've been looking for a good knife store in this town since I moved here 14 months ago and have yet to find one. Though I have found a gun shop that carries top of the line CRAP! If this wasn't such a liberal city I'd say we should start a knife business together

As far as brand loyalty goes... I buy what I think is best. However, when I decided I was going to buy a knife that nearly reach the $200 mark, I researched everthing as much as I could. Right now I've got to say that I am a MT fan. I was going to buy a MOD, but I've been saving my pennies for a LCC DA. And just like the rest of you, I can't wait!

Fixed-Blade Knives...Cold Steel.

Folders...CRKT.
(Although Cold Steel is "gaining" on CRKT.).

Knife Sharpeners...Spyderco (Sharpmaker).

I used to be kind of partial to Benchmade, but all their knives has always had one QC error or some design flaw that really got anoying. Rattling stop pins (all three of the 910/910BT's that I have owned at some point), uneven thickness of grinds (all of them were a little not perfect), or it scraped the spacers or liners or uneven centering. Always there is something not quite right, and believe me, it is annoying.

I think I'm going to become a MT fan, but I've only owned one MT and it was a UDT. I will be buying a SOCOM pretty soon.

As for sharpening gear, the Edge Pro beats everything!

Sansei (from another sansei):
I tend to have a loyalty to a few companies that are favorites...Victorinox, Spyderco, Benchmade, CRKT, Buck

I have a lot of knives, and a lot from other brands... Kershaw, Schrade, Emerson, etc. But the top makers I mentioned above I have the most knives from.

The past couple months I've been getting an especially high number of Benchmades. I always check 'em first, so I eliminate flaws before I buy one. No real problems, and very sharp out of the box!

As for actual USE, I find my Victorinox SAK's and Spyderco's get used the most.

For me guys,, Microtech has been the answer, ever since I opened my first purchase a M/A Socom back in 1997. The materials used, as well as the quality of these "factory produced knifes" are unchallenged in this industry. I have had several other companies knifes during the course of my life, and while they make fine products, I will never go back

MT's are the closest thing to "customs" and at times, even better... Take a look at the new LCC

its the real deal and costs a fraction of what it should,,,, Larry C.

I've been brand loyal to Buck for about 12 years now. I expect most of us have brand loyalty to at least some degree.

I really like Spyderco, Benchmade, and Emerson, but I love Microtech! I find them more attractive and they have a sense of solidity bordering on perfection. Any new model is welcome!

I've been partial to my Benchmade Elishewitz since I bought it two years ago. Even though I have several other quality brands including more than one benchmade, this one still finds it's way into my pocket. I'd have to say it's the feel and quality.
