Hey guys,
I just got a new Benchmade 581 Barrage (assisted) with a small amount of up and down blade play and the axis lock is the whole way forward (No room to self adjust)... I was wondering if anyone else has the 581, and do you notice the same things? I cant decide if I should send it in, or if I'm just being too anal about it... I really think its unacceptable for such a knife to have any noticeable blade play, ESPECIALLY since I have some China made folders that lock up "bank vault tight".. This will be the second knife i've had to send back (Griptillian) with blade play out of the box so i'm really losing faith in the Benchmade quality  . Any insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated!
Will.

I had a Presidio (Another axis lock) with the same problem. Sent it back to the retailer first then the manufacturer, both accompanied by a note explaining the problem, and neither of them could do anything about it. The retailer told me that all of the Presidios they had in stock had equal amounts of blade play, and Benchmade repaired the broken omega springs but didn't bother with the blade play.

I just bought a 14$ Ganzo axis lock with less blade play than that 190$ MSRP Presidio.

I just checked my 583 and it seems fine to me.

You could try tightening it up yourself but if you mess it up you're screwed.

I would just send it back to BM.

Were they able to fix your Grip?

They put a new blade and washers on my grip but it still had pretty bad (in my opinion) side to side play. I can actually see a gap between the washers and the blade when i hold it up to the light.. When i use it i dont even notice the blade play, but i know its there, and thats what bugs me.. blade play bothers me sooooo much, i hate it!!! I almost wish people would just tell me i'm being to picky haha..

Thanks for the quick replys everyone... I guess i'll send it back to BM and hope they can fix it

I used to have the same problem. I decided to let a little side to side play go. Up and down I just can't really do. If the knife is new, I will let it have some break in time to see if the locking faces mate up some.
