I posted a thread recently about a strange issue I was having with my coarse credit card sized stone. I was told that what was happening was normal. Well now sharpening the SECOND knife, yes only the second to ever touch this stone. One corner/quarter quadrant of this knife no longer works. It is smoother than my extra fine and removes no metal. I have never used more than the weight of the knife+my hand for pressure,so I know this cannot be user error. Has anybody encountered/heard of this happening before, and only the second time the stone was used? I hope I can get dmt to exchange it or something.

I've not experienced this before . You may have a defective stone . Send it back and see what they say . DM

DMT may or may not exchange it, I'd also be sure to explain EXACTLY what the problem is. The usual test is to rub it on glass and if your hone scratches glass they will send it back.

The edges of a diamond stone are the most vulnerable to loosing diamonds because the pressure can be multiplied many times due to the very small points of contact. I've done it to a few of mine but it only seems to be a issue with the XC and C stones. I can't say I've exactly used light pressure with mine and it didn't happen in 2 sharpenings so your issue may be a little different.
