Hey all,

Recently stumbled across Himalayan Imports and wasted no time getting completely hooked on the beautiful knives made by Yangdu & co. Recently purchased a CAK (which HI Customer Service recommended for my needs) and I am having a hard time concentrating on work until it gets here. Anyway, I've enjoyed reading the threads posted on the cantina and I am glad to find a group of like minded people who, unlike my fiance, will not think I'm crazy for spending two hours online staring at kukris.

Also, just wanted to echo Ulfheddin... the HI seax is beautiful (especially for a medieval history major), and I would find it extremely difficult not to purchase one if they returned to the regular inventory. Also agree that a larger blade of the seax would be ideal.

welcome to the forums, this is one of the best natured places out there! glad to have another HI fan/addict on board, may you shark long and well.

"HI Customer Service" was probably Yangdu. :)

As a student of medieval history, you'll probably appreciate that HI replicates some of those traditions of craftsmanship and community, and is nothing like a giant corporation with its banks of telephones and anonymous customer service people. It's a refreshing change from the rampant commercialism that surrounds us.

Welcome to the community Sallinger87! The Ang Kola is a beast of a knife. I have a 15",20", a few Bowies among some others an they are fine blades in my book! I dont have a midsized Chirruwa AK but is on my ever growing want list. If I reduced my time down to two hours here my wife would be happy! There seems to be growing interest for a longer Seax. It would be cool to see a special run of them!

any knife big enough to become a sword becomes a part of my collection ;o

Thanks for the welcome! I am new to knives though I am reading up on them. One of the things I love to do is clean and cook the fish I catch. I understand that the CAK would not be a good option to fillet a perch (although a great option to take the heads off), but what about the karda? What is the quality of the karda? Is it sharp and thin enough to take the skin off fish?

Also, David99, it was Yangdu and I immediately understood the loyalty you all have for her.

The kardas are typically pretty short with no flex, so they would be far from ideal for skinning fish. However, if the fish is big enough (like the salmon in the video below), your khukuri could probably be used for it.

Some newcomers might not have seen this video yet, it's called "Khukuri in the Kitchen" and it features an HI khuk:

Warm welcome to the HI and Forum, sailinger87

Thanks for the video, Steve. I hadn't seen it before and it was mesmerizing to watch.
