Brand new PM2 -- No date code on the box???

I just received a Black/Black PM2 and I immediately noticed that there's no date code on the box. I thought Spydercos always had date codes on the box. It came from a very reputable dealer and there's no doubt in my mind that it's absolutely authentic. Out of about 20 spydercos that I have this is the only one that isn't marked with a date code. Given the demand of the PM2 I assume this one was manufactured recently so maybe they've changed their methods?. Has anybody else bought anything recently that was likely recently manufactured?

I'm far from a Spyderco expert, in fact I didn't even know about the date code until reading your message. I've attached a photo of my three PM2 boxes... one of the KM's was purchased about a year ago, one of the KM's was purchased from another user on here and the HN was purchased around 9/4/14 from new stock that had arrived at a BladeForum sponsoring retailer. I've got all three standard versions except the black/black you have, though I doubt that should make a difference. I have noticed that the plain blades have been appearing lately, but I've yet to personally see any new black blade shipments (not that I couldn't have missed them).

So, I can establish at least that on the PM2 that I purchased on 9/4/14, the date code was still there. You should probably contact Spyderco about this, I would certainly hope they can tell you...

(I did a BIT of searching, because that is what I do, and I've found PM2 boxes with 3 other month codes from 2014, but didn't see any without a date code... for what that is worth. I've seen a counterfeit that DID have a date code on the box also.)

My newest spyderco is from August of this year with code HN, and it was shipped out to me as soon as the dealer received it in mid-late September; if they stopped printing the date code it is a very recent thing.

I've had a Gayle Bradley before that didn't have a date code, and it was 100% authentic. Can't speak on anything else but maybe this just happens sometimes.

Yea it must be a fluke. I'm sure it was manufactured recently because I placed the order after the dealer posted a FB message about them arriving. I was just wondering if anybody else had seen this before.

If you're certain the knife is legit, then the box is a fluke. I've bought a couple hundred Spydercos in the past 11 years and never received one without a date code that was made after they started using the two letter date codes about 10 years ago. Still, I've seen some other strange printing errors, so have no reason to doubt it could happen.

I have never seen a box without a date code. You should call them and then post results here!
