This is my first ever post here. I have been a firearm enthusiast for a long time, however, until recently knives were just an afterthought to me.

A couple of weeks ago my son bought me a "Colt" Tanto neck knife (Colt Guardian 57). I realize that this is a cheap knife made with cheap Chinese steel. It did get me thinking (and actually, the "Colt" is kinda cool).

I have since bought a Cold Steel Tanto "Kobun", an SOG Flash II, and have recently ordered my first "real" knife, an Emerson/Protech CQC-7 Tanto with full knureled grip. Hopefully this knife will arrive by this weekend.

Thanks, and , any suggestions?

Sound like you're on a good trajectory. If you lean towards tactical, Emerson, Strider and so forth. For high quality EDC, try Chris Reeve Sebenza. And if you want to save a bit on money, there is Benchmade and Spyderco, which make all types of knives. Go crazy, and bring your wallet.

Welcome to the forum Okieblade. I love opening the mailbox with the anticipation of new steel.

Run while you can....flee and collect pound puppies, race horses or something cheap and benign like Civil War era Colts. Knife collecting is a bottomless pit.

There warned you. :D

But, if you do stick around, Welcome to the Forums.

I'm brand new to knife collecting as well...just stumbled upon this forum for the first time last night and spent a good five hours on here. It's exciting to be new and be in awe of all the incredible knives out there, yet kind of overwhelming to not know much of anything compared to the vets here. I owned one benchmade for the last three years and within the last two weeks ordered three more benchmades and a spyderco (probably wouldn't have done that if I had heard of striders and other high end knives). I thought my benchmade was top of the line hahaha. I never heard of a strider or para 2 til yesterday. Got lots to learn. hahaha.

Welcome to the forums. Sounds like you've got a good start on the long road ahead lol.
Nice knives by the way.
I hope you enjoy the forums, lots of nice people.
However, don't ask us to talk you out of getting a new knife.
We're all enablers here.

Let us know how you like that Emerson!

You'll find yourself wanting and trying a whole plethora of different knives. You'll find ones you love and ones you don't. But the whole hobby is really fun. =]

Welcome to the knife-sickness. =]

Welcome.
Get yourself informed. This place is a great starting point.
Look into the materials, the design and the quality.
Look at the people who run the companies that make/sell the knives.
If possible go to a knife-show.
If you are interested in customs, get the KNIVES annual books. It's nice to browse through and gives you an idea of the custom world.
There you can also find lots of info around the topic. Some magazines can also enlighten you.
All the best

Hey, Im new to collecting as well

Mine started with a SOG Twitch 2, then I got a SOG seal pup elite, then another twitch 2, then a flash 2, and then I fell in love with the benchmade griptilian and had my gf buy me a Doug Ritter Griptilian for christmas.

Now I have a Esee Izula on the way, and looking to purchase a small sebenza really soon..its addicting.

Welcome to the forums. Some advice I'd like to give is to buy from a reputable dealer. You don't want to risk getting ripped-off on a deal. I'd also like to suggest Kershaw. They make some of the best budget knives. You should also check out Zero Tolerance (ZT). They're like Kershaws higher-end knives. Good luck and have fun.

I myself just received what I consider my first major knife 2 days ago. When I started looking at knives I thought alright I can find like 5 knives and rotate them around for edc use now that I have my knife (zero tolerance 0561) n been able to play with it I realize that will never happen n that there is no end to wanting more n more knives. Not really knowing what I'll like the best between different lock styles blade steels etc I've already decided to pick up benchmade next to try out their axis lock... You already seem to know the direction you want to go and that's great just find what you really like the best
