Hey guys. So if I'm looking for a folding lock back knife that can perform like a fixed blade. What knife brand should I go with. I want a knife that is very strong and will hold up well. A good hard use folding lock back knife. What brand would have a good selection of knives that fit into that category. I've been looking a lot at zt and benchmade.

Just about any lockback from a reputable manufacturer such as Buck, Kershaw, Cold Steel, Shrade, etc., would outlast you if you use it as a cutting tool.

Cold Steel's Tri-Ad lock!
Spyderco makes good lockbacks too.

Do Benchmade and ZT make lockbacks?

Steel, heat treat and lock should be your foremost considerations vs brand. Like any product, companies have good and bad/average knives. Cold steel's triad lock is really strong, benchmade's axis lock and sog's arc lock are very strong as well. There are a lot of brands out there, and everyone will have one or more brands they prefer. Me, I've beaten the hell out of some of my knives and some have stood the test of time, others haven't. My 15 year old sog x-ray vision mini has been through hell and back, not chips, lock is still strong. My cold steel recon 1 so far has been very sturdy for what it is.

A traditional lock-back knife that is rock solid is Schatt and Morgan Mountain Man. They are the higher end of the Queen Cutlery. Google it to find dealers.

For framelocks, I'd go with Chris Reeve Sebenza or Hinderer XM-18. But these are high end knives. And both are sold by other members of this forum pretty frequently.

You should get this 100 times this thread.

NO folding knife will perform like a fixed. None.

Some locks are stronger than others, and some perform better than others. In my collection of locking folders, by far and away the strongest lock system is the Cold Steel Tri-Ad lock.

That being said, I have never had a quality knife's lockup fail when using the knife as just that... a knife.

If you search this site you will find literally hundreds of posts addressing your exact question.

No such thing.

But, as mentioned already, a knife from a reputable maker, used properly will work just fine and outlast you.

And as Nullity pointed out...do you mean "locking folder"? A lockback folder is a specific type of locking folder.

Benchmade makes a few but ZT doesnt make lockbacks.
Such a simple question has a million answers.

I don't think ZT makes lock back knives, and benchmade makes very few. If it must be a lock back and has the best chance of surviving something that should be done with a fixed blade I'd say go with something from a Cold Steel that uses their Triad Lock (its suppose to be the strongest lock on the market or at least one of them) If only sticking with the 2 brands mentioned, The Benchmade 275 Adamas is by far Benchmades strongest knife and lock. ZT's would probably the 200 or 300.

The 0200 is a liner lock, granted my 0350 has done some incredible things with the same lock thickness.

That said, there's a video of a guy batoning through a car door using a hammer with an 0300 with no lock failure. There's also the Extrema Ratio RAO that uses a stop pin to secure the blade. It's quite literally as close as you can get to a folding fixed blade knife, but I've never had my hands on one.

Cold Steel gets my vote for best, but there are plenty of good companies who make good sturdy, reliable folders.

No folding knife will perform like a fixed blade. The closest thing currently in production is Cold Steel's Pocket Bushman.

I agree fully. If you want something very durable i recommend the Cold Steel Ak-47. There are many other knives by Cold Steel and other companies but i am recommending something i own. Good luck :)
