Branding a blade

So, at some point, I’d like to be able to sell my creations. Ive seen many many bladesmiths who brand their knives like you brand cattle. Where can I get a brand made for me? Or, do you have to make something like that yourself?

There’s a Knife makers discussion forum which you’d be better served with answers

A quick note from me as a Collector....unless you want to be lost in obscurity, put you name and town/state on your knives.

As the years have gone by I’ve got MANY knives with a ‘brand’, as you put it, that for the life of me I have no idea who made it now and most folks don’t know either.

A word to The Wise...;)

Hi James,

I COMPLETELY agree with Dawkind Dawkind 's post above mine. We have had this discussion over the years many times.

This said: have the best of BOTH worlds: An icon, AND your name/location. Keep it small. Have a graphic artist do it cleanly.

I have seen makers who produce historical-styled knives and the 'mark' is their name in modern Arial font. It simply looks WRONG.

Good luck.

I agree, even tho I have not followed this very sensible rule.

A number stamped ( I hand acid etch) on each blade with logo identifies your blade, kept in a log with data for future reference. Helps identify 'custom.' I get asked years later, and I can look it up, tell what kind of steel, what oil I quenched it in, if I cryo treated etc. day I made it all that fun stuff. My methods changed over the years. Nice to have an identifier number.
