I Need An Economical Fixed Blade For Rough Camping Chores. Rigid Has Me Interested. They're Made In Usa, Which I Like. I'm Thinking About The Bear Tracker Model.... Thoughts On The Rigid Brand?

Also, I Like Boker A Lot. Are The Magnum Blades By Boker Any Good, Or Just Tawian Junk. The Price Is Usually Quite Less Than Other Bokers. Thoughts?

I still have an old Rigid clip point in 440C that I picked up when I was in the Army, about 25 years ago...great knife, used to cut down saplings to make "hooches" when in the field. Not sure if the company is still the same company, might have sold out to the Chinese.

here's a link:
scroll down a third of the page to the Bear Tracker CLIP point model (not the folder or the gut hook model)

thanks

That Bear Tracker fixed blade is a redo of a former Schrade knife. Since Schrade went under, I've seen that knife under several different brand names, Rigid, Outdoor Life..etc.

All of them had "Liscensed by United Cutlery" on the packaging and "Assembled in the U.S.A. with foriegn parts" on the package.

I'm pretty darn sure Rigid knives are made in China , I got this nagging image in my mind of seeing some Rigid knives that had China stamped on the blade , does not necessarily mean they are crappy but if I recall they did not seem like very good knives.
That said , I like the looks of that gunstock Trapper. :D

The Boker Magnum ? I have a Boker Magnum slippie and it's pretty darn nice.
Red grooved bone , 3 blades , F&F gets 8 out of 10 , blades were not the sharpest but took a nice edge once I fiddled with 'em. Cost was the deciding factor.

The more expensive traditional knives on that page were made by Canal St for United, before United folded.

As far as those fixed blades, I'm not sure where they're made , but most of their lower cost knives are made in China.

Magnum knives are made in Taiwan and China

I just bought two Magnum folders, Black Hole and Hardcore. They are very well finished and really solid. I really like them. They fit in well with my Bucks, CRKTs, Cold Steels, Al Mars etc.

The Rigid Bear Tracker black blade knives RG0801MX and RG0802MX say Made in USA on the box and on the blade. There is no mention on the box or blade of foreign or imported parts being used. It does say "Packaging printed in China".

I thought maybe they were made in the Schrade plant since they are identical to the Schrades.

Go to Ebay and look up Greco Knives, He's got MST (Midsize tactical's)TWO for 99.95 with shipping. Plus many more combos, in fact you can email him and ask for specific combinations of knives to be put up for bidding. These are GREAT KNIVES!!!!!

Why Are You Initial-Capping Your Entire Post?

Lots of good stuff coming out of Taiwan these days. Spyderco's Byrd line and the Dozier Folding Hunters just for a couple of examples.

I have an old Rigid knife, Not sure how old, it doesn`t have very good blade steel. I have several Magnum knives. For the price they are pretty good knives. I would spend the extra money, and buy a Boker. The ones made in Germany. Handle one of each, ypu can tell the difference.

Correction:
Byrds are made in mainland China.
KaBar Doziers are made in Taiwan.

Not the same place.

(Just an opinion from buying and usage during the last decade or so.)

Almost everything I've used that says "China" on it from the last 10 years or so, has been very affordable, and a decent knife. Everything from Taiwan or Pakistan, I have been abel to bend with my hands, and I hardly ever use except to cut okra from the garden or somethin.

IMO Like most other things, it depends on what you buy.

I think highly of the KaBar Doziers. They are made in Taiwan. Some of Benchmade's knives are made in Taiwan and are well made. But I'm sure there are a number poorly made examples as well.

I have no knives from Pakistan, so I cannot comment on that.
