Bobby Branton is a well known name on these forums, as a BFC Moderator, Bladesmith and Knifethrower, as well as the Co-Founder of the American Tomahawk Co. with Andy Prisco. I first heard his name in Knives 99 (on page 63) where I saw one of his Boot knives, I marked the page.
Im known by a few on BFC as Pic-Makin-Bastid, part for the goofy pics Ive posted and part for some of the Logos and illustrations Ive done for some of the makers here. Bobby asked if I could do some graphics work for him and I said, Sure! When he asked, What do you want in return? I said read my signature, Will Work 4 Knives. When he asked, What knife? I said, If I send you the stag will you make me one of your Model 2 Boot knives? I know Bobby would have much rather pay me in cash, he told me how busy he was with all his other business and that if I wanted the knife I would have to wait. Well, since I had wanted one of his knives for over 2 years waiting a little longer wasnt a problem so I said, Fine, get to it when you can. I sent him the stag in March. I finally got to meet him in June at Blade Show. Friday at NYCKS, Andy Prisco handed me my knife from Bobby.
I went to NYCKS with no money to buy a knife, so when I opened the zippered case with my long awaited Branton Boot Knife I was like a kid on Christmas morning. Bobby had told me because of his making throwers and hawks it had been two years since he made a knife like this and he just hoped I would like it. He also showed the knife to George Herron for his opinion before he sent it. I told Bobby, if he was putting his name on it and Mr. George gave it his okay, it would probably pass my inspection.
This knife is a beauty, mirror polished ATS-34, thick stag scales that fill the hand, with the fit and finish of a true artist. I love to show off my knives and since I was at a knife show, I showed a bunch of people. Not just my buddies from here, but makers like Darrel Ralph and ABS Master smith P.J. Tomes who really looked at it with a discerning eye. Their opinion was the Herron influence was all over that knife and the workmanship was great, and that Bobby needs to find more time to make more knives like that.
As much as Id like to show you a pic of this knife my scanner has crapped out. The best I can do right now is to point you to Bobbys website and ask you to scroll down to his Model 2 Boot Knife, and use your imagination to picture it in Stag.

If you scroll down a little further youll see a couple of the illustrations I did for Bobby.
Bobby, I hope you know how much I appreciate you making me this knife.
Andy, once again thanks for all of your help.
You guys are the best.
