Greetings all,

Well, one you don't see or hear much about these days: The Branton/Brend Mid-Tech M-2. Thought I'd throw up a couple pictures from letting it get a little fresh air this week. Long before there were today's run of 'tacticool' makers putting out current offerings, there was Walter Brend (as well as Lile and others of course). I couldn't afford one of his full-tilt customs back then, still can't afford one now. But back in '05, these were a pretty good deal. IIRC, Brend ground the blades, and Branton finished off everything else (if somebody knows for sure, please share). Paired them up with a SpecOps sheath. They were/are excellent knives then, and IMHO, they've only improved with age. Short of the full metal guard of a genuine 'full' Brend, these are pretty tough to beat. I put them up against just about anything in their price class these days. Pretty d@mn awesome lines if you ask me.

Just for giggles, I was able to find one of my old posts from another forum. Here's what I had to say 10 years ago just after I received it in Feb. 2005:

Howdy all,

Well, UPS just dropped off my new Branton/Brend Model 2 Mid-Tech from Knifeart. See here:

(You'll note it says 'Sold')

In a word AWESOME!!! The pitures give you an idea as to the overall scale and construction of the piece, but you really don't appreciate it until you hold it in your hand. Quality is far higher than the price would suggest. The blade has obviously had some hands on-attention and honing. The fit of the micarta scales is perfect, and ergonomics are top notch. In another post the other night, I listed the Brend Model 2 as THE top fixed blade out there, and this knife, while not a full custom (and thus far more attainable), only re-affirms my opinion. The blade profile, edge geometry, and grind patterns leave no doubt this knife can do some serious cutting. An talk about stout, 1/4" D2 stem to stern. If you break this knife, you were more than just mis-using it a little bit.

This one will have a nice home in my collection.

My advice, is you appreciate FINE, heavy duty cutlery, pick one of these up. And if you come across one, don't hesitate too long, they get snapped up quickly.

Thanks to Branton/Brend for putting together a great collaboration. Thanks to the folks at Knifeart for the excellent service!!

Stay Safe,
BOSS

I think that all holds as true today as it did back then. If you happen along one of these at a decent price, they're definitely worth considering.
