Recently I've done several knives with some added brass fixtures just for contrast:

Let me know what you think. Do you like the added contrast or prefer other materials?

Thanks,

IMO, brass has it's place among historic pieces and renditions and seems right at home on some Loveless style knives.

While not a material I generally prefer, I feel that some contemporary pieces can benefit aesthetically from using brass as a design element, it all depends on what's trying to be achieved.

I like contrast but hate brass....and nickel silver.

Copper on areas that can be easily accessed for cleaning if need be, and bronze for other areas for contrast. That coining isn't doing anyone favors for cleaning.

Bronze mellows and develops interesting patina....brass just looks tarnished as it ages....hard to go wrong with gold.

The fighter witht he ball ends looks very nice, it has good flow and proportions.

I'm a copper fan, like bronze, brass less. I think I wasted too much time using brasso in the service?
I'm with STeven, the fighter with the ball end is my favorite.

Thanks, guys. I will probably continue to use some brass on my historical pieces but will look into bronze as a substitute on my modern knives. I appreciate the viewpoints.

IMHO brass can be over used but it does have it's application.
You can use it for interesting details

Steven makes a good point in regard the cleaning/maintenance of a knife. Knife makers understandably have great concern for what a knife looks like when it's made but perhaps sometimes not so much with what's it's going to look like in five years.
It's fine if the brass, sterling, nickel silver etc. are placed so easily accessed for cleaning, however cleaning agents can damage/cloud, leave dulling residue on handle materials if brass, nickel silver accents are placed right up against such.
