I just came across a picture of a 1989 dated 305 with a brass frame and standard black valox scales.

Is there any significance to this, was it something special?
I'm not exactly an expert on vintage Bucks but I thought I was pretty much familiar with most 305 variants and this one is certainly new to me.

If it's the knife below, I would say it has nickel silver bolsters with a lot of tarnish, less on the left bolster in the second photo.

I'm no 300 series expert either, but I know of no brass framed 300s prior to 2012 or there abouts and it had cherry scales.

P plb is right. Nickel with some strange patina going on.

Thanks, I see it now.
My 2017 brass 305 was looking a bit like this and I brass was my first thought.

…an important engineering breakthrough: a tough stainless steel pivot pin and bolster that won’t rust, corrode, loosen or break…"

These were the words in a 1972 ad by Buck. The photo shows that only the pivot pin was stainless.

I noticed the SS pivot pins, but it didn't even dawn on me that Buck doesn't use those with brass bolsters.

I almost bought this knife without thinking, but I'm glad I decided to ask here first .

The scales were Delrin, not Valox. Valox was used on the knives with structural handle/frames such as the BuckLites.

The 700 series was produced with brass bolsters for a very short time, and in small quantities. If you search long enough, a brass 705 might be obtainable.

705s compared to 305s
I really wanted to like the 705, but the crooked blade grinds on them always put me off.
I'm still not sure if I'm going to keep my 705 or not.

I knew there was brass used on the 700 series at some point, but had no clue the shield was also brass and that's really cool.
I like the blue enamel shield on my brass 305, but a brass shield would be awesome as well.
