I am making a fighting knife and I will be parkerizing it,I plan on using brass for the guard.I usually siver solder the guard on but I`ve never mixed a parked blade and a brass guard.
I dont know what will happen if I solder the guard, sand blast the whole thing and then put it into the park bath, will the brass being in there screw up the finish?I`m thinking it will.
Can I solder the guard on after the parkerization?I think the flux will screw up the finish wherever it touches the blade.
Maybe I should just skip the solder and drill two holes through the guard and blade, parkerize it,put on the guard and peen two large pins in it after the thing has been parked.
What would you do?

Why not use the same steel as the blade for the guard and weld it on before you parkerize it?

well the person I`m making it for kinda wants brass.
L6,where in the panhandle are you? I`m in Pensacola

The guards are not secured at this point,I think I`m going to install them with pins after the park bath

Woah, nice knife!! The JB Weld is an excellent idea.
I live in Florosa, about 3 miles west of Hurlburt AFB, Bossman. Are you a grinder or a smithy??

L6,thanks for the kind words,I`m just a grinder now but I have aspirations on forging. This site has given me much needed info,I`m now hunting for a freon canister and some fire brick to make my first gas forge.I would also like to trip across a good anvil at the flea market soon.
The knife in the picture is the first I`ve ground from bar stock(it`s 1095),I`ve used files and rasps exclusively until now. This knife is also the first one I will sell to someone I`ve never met.
I guess I`m moving right along.
Thanks guys for all the help,I hope I can give back someday.
