Brass hilt repair/Polishing

Need recommendations on the best products to repair slight blemishes on a brass hilt.

File big dings out. Sand with 320 grit wet/dry paper, then 400, then 600, then as high as you want to go. Use Simichrome polish or something similar for final finish.
