Brass patina?

I know the brass standoffs are pretty new but I was wondering if anyone knows how quickly they "patina" with normal use? I have seen a forced patina on the copper standoffs and it looks great. What is the percentage of copper and zinc in these? I love the way brass looks when "warn" and would love to see or hear speculation about how the brass standoff will look with a little weather on them? Will they darken up a bit?

I have carried a brass Investigator every evening for well over a year...unsure exactly how long but it been awhile. Side by side with brand new brass pens it's more matte. Standoffs will see less wear and tear than the pen so I'm guessing they will stay shiny for quite some time. Environmental conditions may speed natural changes in apperance.

Brand new standoffs and a used Investigator.

I could be mistaken, but hasn't the brass investigator been bead blasted? The standoffs I know haven't been bead blasted so that alone makes the pen more matte in finish right from the start.

Aren't the brass investigators bead blasted? ^ whoops didn't see your post RDA. :)

I'm not certain if its bead blasted or not as I'm not the maker. Both of my Brass Investigators started nice and shiny like the standoffs.

I have posted a photo of the two side by side before when the newer one arrived. It's in my bucket somewhere.

Yea mine definitely has more of a matte finish and has darkened up since I recieved it. I've only had it since sept. I'm excited to see it in a few years from now after EDC. If I don't lose it that is.

That's what I'm talking about! I really like the look of aged brass, maybe the standoffs will start to look like that pen in time.

Bead blast those standoffs and you'll get most of the way there immediately.

This thread came at a perfect time. I just ordered a brass investigator pen (it was a hard decision between brass and copper). It should be here tomorrow. I can't wait to see ow it ages over time.

idk, but I like the look of freshly polished brass on the standoffs...looks like gold to me. pretty cool. next time I take apart the customs im gonna polish the brass n copper standoffs, see how it looks. I polished my brass bead when it came in, I couldnt believe the difference! really dig the distressed copper look...and on a pen, I wouldn't want shiny brass, too flashy. lookin forward to seein how they age up for you guys.
