Brass pommel recon tanto?

Anyone on here know anything about a recon tanto with a carbon V blade with a bead blasted kind of finish. Tang is stamped Ventura California with what looks like traditional cord wrapped handle and a brass pommel. I can't find much information on it. Any help would be appreciated.

my guess is going to be that it was a rework of an existing recon tanto that was somehow handle damaged, or a build up from a blade blank..... but that's just a guess really...

Pictures? The original Recon Tanto from back in the 80s was basically the same as the regular Tanto except it had the bead-blast finish on the blade, guard, and pommel to reduce glare. The pommel was also more like a "dome" than the regular skull-crusher version. The blade was the same "400 Series Stainless" that they used back then (except bead-blasted), and it had the same Kraton handle. There is a Tanto History thread over at the CS Forums (in the Fixed Blade section) that you can reference. If the one you are talking about truly has a CV blade, which came out later when they completely redesigned the Recon Tanto (with an all Kraton handle with integral guard), then I would agree that it must be some sort of custom job.

Thanks! I'll try to get some pictures and put them up later today. I was trying to figure out age on it and wasn't sure if I was looking at it right. Thanks, I'll get those pictures up later.

Here are pictures of the original Recon Tanto.

As far as I'm aware, this is the only handle configuration ever offered. If you've found a cord-wrapped version, mdgessert, it's been modified. As Mr. Lauffer indicated, the blade was not Carbon V. The next generation of Recon Tantos (the current pattern) were in Carbon V initially and were clearly marked as such.

Please do post the pictures you've found. I'm curious to see the knife.

That's the exact one I have whip, I was probably just trying to explain it poorly. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm sure I was confused between that one and one I just sold that was newer in carbon V. Any ideas on value? I am a gold member, but apologize if that's a no-no question.

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to answer you since I'm not a Gold member, but they typically sell for roughly $150 - $200, depending on condition.

It would appear so. I was mistaken. I was going off mine from memory and remembered it incorrectly. It is just like the photo posted above by whip. I haven't looked at it in years and to be honest forgot to get it out to post pictures. Crazy weekend. I'll try to remember to get it out of storage tonight and post a photo.

Would you say that the earlier thought of $150-200 to be accurate? I'm going to list it for sale, but I figure I'll throw it out here first. If interested you can email me at mdgessert@gmail.com or pm.

From my experience $150.00 would be the max. NIB maybe closer to the $200.00 mark. This is based on recent EBay sells and they don't appear to be one of the more popular Tanto's. I have one and think it is cool to be made here, it was the cheaper alternative to their more expensive Japanese version if I remember correctly.

That's what I was thinking too. The condition on mine would put it on the low side so I listed it in the for sale production fixed blades for $165 just to cover shipping. Too awkward of a size to fit in my normal small flat rate boxes. I may drop the price some if I really want to get it moving. Thanks for all the advice everyone.
