can brass rod or bar stock, like heavy stuff,be heated up and forged or shaped???let me know,,thanks royboy

It can be done, but I sure don't enjoy it. Brass gives off some nasty fumes! There are lots of brass alloys and they all behave differently. IMHO, you're much better off with a bronze alloy, it's easier to work with and I like the color a lot more.:)

I've had good luck anealing it and then working it cold. It hammers easily enough in it's anealed state. After a while it work hardens and you have to aneal it again.

just remember copper aloys are opposite of steel. (what you do to harden steel softens brass, and visa-versa)

hope this is helpful Eric

Phosphor bronze is a much better forging material than brass. Silicon bronze will forge alright as well, but it's not as strong a finished product. If you want to carve or etch the finished piece though, silicon bronze is a much better option...
