Hi all. I am looking at getting a Braveheart-style reproduction sword. Specifically, I am looking at a CAS Iberia brand. I can get one for $160.00. It is supposed to be "fully-functional, high-carbon steel." I would like to know how CAS rates for quality, and if that price is fair. (Actually, it's the cheapest I've seen!) As much as I'd like to dream that I'm going to fight battles with this thing, it's really only going to be a display piece, but I don't want to collect junk, of course! Should I not waste money on a CAS Iberia?

Let me know!

I think that article is right on the money, but be warned that Del Tin's wait is something close to a year now. Of course if you are like me that is how long it takes you to save that much money...

Yeah, thanks. I have already read the article before. So would you guys say that CAS Iberia is worth buying?

Thanks!

Personally I would say you have to make that decision for you. For me probably not. I want a sword to be the best without getting crazy in the price range. For me that means Arms and Armor or Del Tin. I have heard to many things about CASI's inconsistent heat treating to be comfortable with it. I just read something else that you might be interested in though. Check out www.swordforum.com in the general forum there is a thread and a picture about the new prototype Kris Cutlery claymore!

Hi all. Wanna bump this up top.

Still looking for a quality Braveheart Sword. Any ideas? I'm pretty sure CAS isn't what I want.

How about this: Arms and Armor

Arms and Armor any good?

IIRC, Del Tin is the original and best, but I have never been able to find a site for them. The sites I've seen were outdated and didn't have pics of the sword I want.

Any Ideas?

Ok, so I've been doing more reading and searching, and I've found the Del Tin for around $360. Decent price?

Is the Del Tin the best? That's how it seems...

Del Tin goves good money to goods ratio. Your previous link is to MRL, they make crap. Del Tin did make the Braveheart sword after all.

Why would you make such a sweeping statement?... Some people have recently done some reviews of MRLS stuff and by all reports their quality has improved consideribly. Perhaps you got a piece that was particularly bad? I dunno but there are an awfull lot of happy MRL customers knocking about the various forums. Granted Mrl Arent up to the A&A level but their price level is also vastly different.

Other places that make crap* claymores are

www.arms-armor.cz
www.lutel.cz
www.irisharms.ie
www.kriscutlery.com

Places that make higher end claymores
www.armor.com

MRL/Windlass back in the older days made stuff that yo would only use as a wallhanger.

Lutel is not crap.

Kris Cutlery doesn't have too many beauty swords other than the Bingo Katana and the Claymore, but they are beautiful in their functionality.

Irish Arms and the other one I have not dealt with.

In a nutshell it means that the folks at Albion weren't two impressed with Fulvio del Tin's handles and such so what they did was enter into an agreement with him whereby he would ship them the components (blade, pommel) and they would make the handles and assemble the swords. They then put the "Albion Mark" on the blades so people will know if it is one of theirs or not. I own one of their DT5156s and they did a good job. I wouldn't say the del tin is the best sword but it is certainly good for the money.

Triton: Which is the BEST Braveheart sword replica? I've been looking at and researching these for quite some time, and have yet to see anyone name one of these "superior" makers, though I've seen people make references to them...

Also, what is the price range for something better than Del Tin? I think $400 is about the highest I'm willing to go...

Is the DelTin a "functional" sword, though?

Also; would you say the Albion 5154 is any better or worse than a "pure" deltin?

Thank you!

Well I suppose if you want an exact replica of the Braveheart sword Del Tin really is the way to go. He did make the one for the movie after all and his stuff is a good buy for the money. In my opinion the ones from CAS etc. are low end. Personally if it was me and I just had to have that sword I would order one through Albion and have them go over it for me. This does two things, it insure that you will get a quality item since they won't (or at least shouldn't) ship it if it isn't and secondly if something goes wrong with it then they will make it right for you.

Deltins in general are functional swords. I would suppose that one in particular is as well although I've never seen it in person.
