Has anyone use this type of wood? I never heard of it, a friend gave me a chunck, it seems to be quite hard, it look like padauk in it rough form.

Howdy There....!
I have been wondering the same thing....!
Had a friend that works for a company that builds stairway and he brought me some of the brazilian cherry. I made him a knife with a piece of it for the handle material. It is hard and works well. I did wear a mask while working it, wasn't exactly sure what it may do to me. It sure did finish out great and seems to hold up well also. Give it a try. Good luck....!

Yes it does,it will darken to a deep rich red color. There's also a much wider range of color to begin with. Some pieces can be almost a dark purple others much lighter. The pieces in the pic are about midrange in starting color. They haven"t darkened any yet.
