Hello Gentlemen,
It is my duty to inform you that the first course in this school was held last week at the Nationa University of Brasilia, where the school is located.
I would like to take this oportunity to thank all friends the custom knife community of Brazil has made in this forums and specialy those of you who bought special knives from the Brazilian Bladesmiths website. Those were made by the SBC Board members and the funds were donated to buy the school equipment, wich will serve us for a number of years.
12 students were there, and as the program of the basic course they forged and heat treated their first knife. The instrutors did the same, and the instructors knives were submited to the JS standart test, to prove the students the methods work fine.
A local TV channer made a story on the subjec and lots of new students are interested in the second basic course to be held in november.
That all was only possible due to the efforts of Mr. Ricardo Vilar, SBC president and instructor, Mr. Milton Hoffmann, SBC vice president and instructor, Hamilton Vogado, SBC Member and the person who made the forges, the board members who donated the knives, the Real Bank with sponsorship, Mr. Mauro from FANEP belt grinders who provided a special deal on the grindes and Professor Miguel, director of the Fine Arts Department of the National University of Brasilia, for the space and opportunity of making a dream come true.
This is history being made, the first knifemakers school of Latin America!
