Recently, I have become the proud daddy of a nice Nepali Khukuri  (amongst other knives, of course - I love you all the same!)

When I was in Guatemala, I stocked up on as many local blades I could get my hands on. They're all great, and have come in handy many times.

So, (now finally getting to the point) I have this younger brother that is living in Brazil. ;) He too, is a knife nut (is this genetic? hereditary?) I'd like to take advantage of his situation (like a good older brother should :D ) and stock up on some local brazilian knives - broadening my "international" cast. :D :D (whatever)

Here's our questions:

Anybody here from Brazil, or been there recently?
What knives should he (my bro) be on the lookout for?
What are the local working knives called?
What information is available online? Anybody have any links?

BTW, he is in or near Maceio, on the east coast in the northernmost area. Note: this is nowhere near Rio, etc. It's a bit remote, but since it's coastal, should have good port access, etc.

Link's not working right now. Is it normally up?

Dan,

The traditional Sorocabana is definately worth checking out. Ivan Campos was having a few forged by an old master and I got one. It's a large blade, but much thinner than a khukuri. Think of a handforged, high quality butcher knife. Mine has a horn handle and a very elegant and comfortable birdshead grip.
