Our bread making machine just died and I'm looking for a replacement. I've see machines ranging from $50-200 and wondered if anyone or their spouse has one that they would recommend or avoid.

It will get frequent use, one or two 2# loaves per week, just regular bread, not fancy stuff. Yes, this will be sliced with a knife!

Real men don't use bread machines !! Most of bread making is waiting - for it to rise and bake. While your making reeds the bread can do it's thing .

Zojirushi bread machines are the only way to go. They are a little pricier but a great product.

But I just hate it when my smoke detector goes off right in the middle of my making a reed:D.

I see that that is the $200 one! but since we don't buy bread in the store maybe I'll just suck it up.

Seriously Triton, how long have you had yours?

I don't mind paying $200 if I think that it is likely to last a good number of years. (I get a bit disgusted when I read Consumer Reports telling me that if my fill-in-the-blank major appliance is over 7 years old don't bother getting it repaired. Or may be I'm alone on this one.)

i got a cuisinart for my b-day in oct and love it, its worked great, not one single complaint about it, most anmazing thing is i can make bread, and it turns out good!! simply amazing. i honestly think my girlfriend could do the same but not 100% sure lol (just kidding she CAN cook but HATES to).

~$120 IIRC.

We use a Breadman Ultimate Plus. This is our second one, after wearing out the first. It does a great job on 1 or 2 loaves/week. I believe it was <$100 at Sears.

I mentioned to my mother that I would be going out to buy a bread machine. She has one, NIB, that she was about to donate. So charity will begin at home this time.:) In the event that it doesn't work or work for long......I've got these good leads and can watch for a sale or upgrade at my leisure. Thanks for the great suggestions.
