Break off steel instead of cutting

Hi all,
Just started working on my first knife- it'll be a paring knife for my wife (I hope), in 1/8" 1095. Doing it Jonesy style.

Now, the tutorial shows bunches of 1/4" holes drilled around the pattern, to make it easier to cut out, so I did the same. But I noticed something I thought I'd ask about... there were several places where it was much easier to just snap off pieces of steel than cut them with the hacksaw.

So someone please tell me that this won't ruin anything, that the heat treat will straighten out all the crystalline-structure mumbo-jumbo, and it's an ok little shortcut, if you're using 1/8" barstock and can get away with it.
Please?

I am certainly no expert, but I imagine that this might slightly bend your workpiece, and when you try to put handles on, it will have gaps. Or if it is the blade ened, it will be near impossible to grind blade straight.

minor bends like ANGRYMOB mentioned are possible, but nothing so serious that it ruins the steel... as long as it doesn't spread cracks, which you should be able to see if you look close.
