There have been a few forest fire raging in this region lately, so the air quality has been very poor to say the least. It was not too horrible on Friday when I was out in the field with a couple of clients, I guess the winds were more calm that day, so I had planned on Alayna and I hitting the woods this past weekend. Then Saturday morning came and the parking lot at the local shopping plaza was so filled with smoke that hanging out and having discussions with friends was enough to make me feel ill. I decided that since Alayna already had a bad cough from being out in it to go to and from school, and recess as well I suppose, we would just stay in and hang out. Saturday we played video games, and then Sunday she was bored. So since I am doing a lot of experiments lately, and have been wanting to add some life to the scenes, I got her to help me with an experiment.

The idea was a story line of a discussion of news of Frodo over breakfast between Merry and Pippin at Brandy Hall, and then them going off in two different directions. Merry going off to Longbottom to pick up a supply of pipe weed, and Pippin is going to Frogmorton to meet with Fredegar at the Floating Log. So naturally extra food has to be made for snacks on their trips. Wandering across country is hungry work!

This was where I realized I need, among a few near duplicates of other items, multiple wooden handled Gauchos and/or Padres, and Hanymen...because there are multiple kitchen scenes involved in this story. I also have to loose the fluorescent lighting that steals my colors...

Alayna worked hard to help me with this project, but she got a kick out of adding the life to the still life for me, the shots with just her hands visible in them.

Brian, do you sheath carry the gaucho in the field or primarily use it in the kitchen?

Though a few knives went to the woods with me in my shoulder bag, It was the one knife that stayed on my belt for the entirety of the trip to the smokies. I do not carry it in the model made for the 4 inch blades, I like it better in the next size down due to the handle shape, and having more handle to grip when drawing it.

I would say no. I enjoy all the food prep pictures, as well as the outdoors. You have me really wanting a Gaucho lately to.

Cool, and yeah everyone needs a Gaucho...hell I want two more lol.

It's the best breakfast I've seen in a long time.
That Gaucho ain't too shabby either. :D

It was the best one I had made in a bit too :) I'm digging having fresh farm raised meats and eggs available again. The guys here do a great job with their sausages. Local raised meats, and no fillers. Yeah, I'm really digging this Gaucho :D

IIRC, there will be a pretty neat one this week, if it makes it through the process:eek:

It was really hard to try and not shark that Gaucho last Friday.

That Osage one was gorgeous. I need two more with wooden handles, but most of my cutting boards are light colored so at least one of them needs to be something darker, maybe desert ironwood. Wish I could snag one like the Goncalo Alves one they had at Blade.

Damn, now I'm dangerously intrigued :)

That Osage one is beautiful. I would love to have sharked it myself.

I make the 5/32 work for me because I'm not a normal person. I have been known to do some crazy stuff. One of the very first outings I took my current wife on, before we were actually dating, was a camping trip on the bluffs in the remnants of Hurricane Lili, after three solid days of rain with large pine trees falling all around us. I don't pack an axe, so just in case I prefer for my knives to error on the side of strength.

But the 3/32 is definitely a better food prep thickness

Hopefully not Lacewood or Desert Ironwood...I am hoping those don't pass through until I can afford another one :)

I'm loving this series Brian. Plus, you got me to purchase LOTR on audible. I haven't been able to listen to it since my set of cassette tapes lost their ride.

Thanks Andy, I'm glad you are liking it man. One of the leather packs I ordered will be here later today, a small leather wine bottle and a couple of other things tomorrow, and I have some other things lined up. So it is slowly coming together. I have some modding, dying, and distressing to do, so this weekend will be fun. Trying to sort out some small barrels this morning, I have a walnut table to finish, and a few other things. I am enjoying this project very much. Very cool. I love the audio books!

ok Brian, when your ready to part with the white Gaucho, you have my cell

LOL, sorry man. Too late for that. parting with the white one is how I got the wooden handled one. It is no longer under my control.

I think Rob Inglis did a fantastic job of narrating all four books.

You set a sumptuous table and the food looks delicious ! I am hungry now...lol. The gauchos are awesome!!

Thank you! Yeah I probably enjoy cooking more than I should  Every time I re-read through this thread I get hungry again :D The Gaucho is awesome, I think everyone should have one or two
