Breaking in a Basic 9

Went out to a nearby footpath to find some downed oak from a lightning strike last year blocking it. I was hardly excited to see this. Seasoned, fire hardened oak. Literally as hard as the curb on the street.

The largest of four cuts pictured below. The wood just cannot chip out. It was fossilized. Seriously.

Good news is the path is now clear. I put the knife through three crosscuts on pieces 3-4" dia plus the one in the vid. My arm was jelly after this. Got her (Basic 9) broke in real good now though.

Very surprised to see, even under 10X magnification, there are NO flatspots or rolling. Impressive.

Loving this knife. Good balance, light as a feather too. Gonna make a sheath later tonight.

Nice work there, Grinder!! Thanks for posting the vid & pics of the Basic Niner workout for us.

Take care of your arm, bro. Striking unyielding material too much can mess up your elbows & wrists, especially the tendons. And they can take a while to heal. Don't ask me how I know that.... :grumpy: :grumpy:

I've been through lumps of over-exertion and injury before. I will spare the boring details. Thanks for the compliments. Hopefully I'll get a comparison up soon.

Thanks.

I like the lighter blades. This knife is less chopper and more survival knife. It is light enough to trim the smallest twigs and draw knife but still balanced well for whipping on logs though and the edge seems tough as nails.

Sheath almost done. I will make a gizmo to hook the loop to later. Not perfect but it'll do for now.
