(snicker)

USPS delivered my BWM today (looks and feels great, love it already, and I really like the handle grooves that I thought I wouldn't...), so I'm headed to Lowes shortly to pick up some gel stripper, a new scotch brite wheel, and some 800 grit SP.

pics later tonight once the work is done.

Looking forward to your work.

I just stripped mine today, and started the ghetto satin process. Pics will have to wait until I'm done.

Go for it, rezinguy! Mine looks pretty rough under the paint, so I am leaving it coated for now. But maybe later......... :D

(no progress pics, too much to deal with with dirty hands and being busy doing it....)

the Lowes I went to had no SP higher than 320-grit, and no ScotchBrite wheels either, so I grabbed a couple of 320-grit blocks and the Josco gel stripper and decided to make due with those for now.

The gel isn't working as fast as I'd like, or the Tanker Gray is tougher than I thought, b/c after a liberal application that sat for 20min and scraping the gunk w/ a piece of plastic - it's still not all gone.

So I washed all of the gunk off, surveyed the progress (I'd say it's 60% stripped), and reapplied another liberal amount of gel, then sat it outside again (this time for 30+min) before checking again...

It's exciting being able to see the INFI underneath.

Fun times.

Further updates to follow.

those strippers seem to have a very narrow temperature range. I imagine it's too cold to work very well outside near CO.

I have found this same thing. Get it somewhere warm and you might get the rest off.

Can't wait to see it done.:D:thumbup:

.
I'm behind, I better get going on stripping my Mistress!

yeah, I think the outside temp is slowing down the progress quite a bit - which I hadn't accounted for. I'll head to HomeDepot tomorrow to resupply and try again in the sun...

interestingly, to me at least, all of the dimples are in a single ~3/8" wide stripe running lengthwise down the blade about 1/8" below the spine and nowhere else.

also, I have a new found respect for those who do this regularly. getting the coating off around the talon hole and where the slabs end as well as the pomel is a PITA.

Did mine yesterday at around 38F in the sun. Took two applications, 10 minute soak each time, a final scraping and brushing with a stainless brush. Mine has that same dimple pattern you describe. I don't plan to grind off enough to make all those disappear.

Must be the top of the grind line. Very cool. Makes me more inclined to strip mine as soon as I get it!

I never paid much attention to temperature in how long it took to strip a blade. I definitely know that the older smooth coated blades were a PIA no matter what temp it was. I do recall a few instances where I had a fair bit of trouble in the cold, now it makes sense.

But here I am, a connoisseur of stripped steel, waiting to see pics. :)

I had a lot of trouble getting the stripper to work in my cold garage last year, so I actually READ the LABEL! 50-80 deg. on the stuff I had, IIRC. At the right temp, I've had it bubble-up while I was still spreading it.

pardon the delay everyone, a friend was in an auto accident late last night (they're fine but it was a big scare that's burned the day away) so I'll get back to it tomorrow and post photos then.
