Took my little boy to the family pond Sat before last, he caught 70+ but only landed 61. He and Sadie his 3 month old bluetick coonhound had a good time.

Proud looking kid, as he should be!

Who gets to clean all them fish???

He was happy as a clam, I got to clean them. We have standing orders from several neighbors that like em de-headed, scaled and gutted, then they fry the rest whole they love to eat the fins. Were in Louisiana and the pond is just under 3 acres in size on a bluff overlooking a river.

i want to catch a bluegill that makes it to 2lbs. Dont know if id be able to pull one that size in...they fight so hard for their size!

I've caught one that weighed just under a pound and it was a beast especially on a diawa minispin. I miss that minispin combo, but it went with everything else when my shop got broken into. Oh well.

two favorite ways to catch em:
1) UL33 Zebco combo w/ a porcupine quill bobber no weight small hook and a piece of a crawler...blamo!
2) Fly rod w/ a bumble bee popper and a nymph of some sort tied on the hook from a small leader. Again...BLAMO...but you can get them on top or just slightly subsurface and the popper acts like a bobber/strike indicator!

Man, you know how long its been since I've seen a real porcupine bobber, years, I didn't even know you could still get em. Ditto on the fly rod that is one heck of a fun way to catch em, heck anything on a fly rod is just plain fun.

I love using wax worms or buttermilk dough to get bluegills. They are fun fish for sure. I had a good run of 42 about a month ago and most were in the half pound+ area. Lots of fighting.

Thanks for all the commetns guys, it was a great day. Something else no matter where I go and fish there is still something magical to me with the boy, some crickets and pile of bream at the pond. I'll take that any day, any day. VGSC, yea she is a beautiful animal thank you. Tom, buttermilk dough, how does that work exactly do you have to freeze in little balls, raw, explain please.

I buy the tube of Pillsbury buttermilk dough. It comes in a ten biscuit tube that will last all day. I stays on the hook pretty good for a long time.

Yes, I have caught many carp with it also! When I was a kid, my Mom had a Japanese garden in the back yard in Queens NYC, and I would go to the local park and catch many small carp and golden carp on the buttermilk dough to bring to her pond! In the last few years, I have caught many 5 lb+ carp at the end of the day ( 8 pm) when the carp came close to the shore in groups. They would hit the dough within 5 minutes instead of the long wait for a bite.
