Need suggestions for a breathable unstructured cap edit: and I do not want any kind of mesh.
I don't do bright colors or gaudy labels.
Favorite right now is an Orvis that is similar to Filson's low profile Cover Cloth cap, but without the logo. Great water resistance, but it doesn't breathe.

The North Face has a "STOWABLE VAPORWICK® ENDURANCE HAT", but it's in black or white, and has the TNF label.
Not too bad, actually, but plainer would be better.

Now if someone could point me to one with EVENT or Gore-Tex PacLite that's waterproof, too, that would be great.

Ah, never mind. My buddy google let me down on that one. A look at Altrec and REI gave me lots of options.

Yeah, take a look at Outdoor Research. They make about half a million different hats and are by far the market leader in the specialty outdoor world. REI and Altrec probably both carry everything they make.

Ah, the waterproof/wind resistant hat that breathes... probably been more lies told in that category than the latest blade steel. Well, maybe as many;)... I'll stick with my Tilley No. 3.

Looking at a Tilley's "waterproof/breathable" model is what reminded me I wanted more from my cap:D
Having read enough reviews and comments on gear that I own that were outright lies, I know what you mean, though.

I've worn my Tilly for the past 12 years. It's been through the washer dozens of times, exposed to tropical sun for months on end, salt water, stuffed into the bottom of my pack while wet, etc., etc., etc. It still looks brand new. Only 'real' hat I've ever owned, and I'll never wear anything other again. In fact, being that this one is guaranteed for life, I'll probably never wear any other hat again period!~ LOL

I'll check out the newer ones, then. The ones I had from 15-20 years ago just soaked up water or perspiration. If they're making them of newer and better fabrics, I might like one over a cap for fishing and kayaking.

Tru-spec has wide brim boonie hats in 65/35 poly/cotton. They should soak up less water.
