I'm waiting for a CMP Garand. I joined the necessary organization and filled out the proper forms, now I'm just holding my breath. I ordered a service grade rifle. Everything I've read indicates that these really are fine weapons. They are a bit long in the tooth though, and even the good examples are in need of some loving care. Do you guys have any good tips for cleaning up old mil-surps like this and bringing them back to fighting trim? Thanks.

All guns that leave CMP are supposed to be properly head-spaced.
That's concern #1 taken care of.
As for clean-up, strip it down, get the cosmoline out of it, lube it up, and let er rip.
I use the lithium grease in mine rather than the "cup" grease the manual specifies.
The lithium is listed as a field alternative in the back of the Field Manual. It's cheap, and
readily available at Auto Parts stores.
The Fulton Armory web site has a pretty comprehensive FAQ page for Garand stuff.
