I got the Mega Tessa a few days ago :)

7" blade of 3/16" thick 01

Orange G-10 Scales with rounded Pommel

2 Pins and no Lanyard hole

(just like I requested)

I have a Blister on my thumb and have not tested it very much

But so far the HANDLE is OUTSTANDING

Will test it FULLY against several other knives I own this coming weekend and post all sorts of photos 8)

Here are three---One of the blade blank and 2 finished photos

Here are the knives I will be testing the Mega Tessa against this weekend

From Top Down

CAMP TRAMP
BECKER BK-7
CUSTOM(MAKER UNKNOWN) HANDLES BY JUSTIN OF RANGER KNIVES
TOPS APACHE DAWN
SIEGLE SAR 6
BREEDEN MEGA TESSA

Will test and post testing photos Sunday night

Sincerely

Dr.Bill

Today(Friday)

Kitchen Duty--Will Slice a tomato with each and compare.I've found that if a knife will slice a tomato well it will usually slice just about anything well

I will also slice cardboard boxes in my Garage and compare accuracy, handle comfort and retention, ease of getting back to stance,,etc

This weekend---

I will test each by Chopping both thick and thinner branches on the 200 acres I have access to.

I also will try to do this--Found this list on another forum

Scaled 1-10, 10 being the best.
Categories
1. Chopping-10 swings with moderate pressure. Then measured the depth of the cut. The same piece of seasoned wood.
2. Fuzzsticks-How difficult was it to make a fuzzstick
3. Spear point-How easy was it to make a spear point
4. Finish of the knife-From handle to blade---Not going to rate that one.
5. Handle comfort-How comfortable was it after 30 minutes of use--I'll use 5 minutes.
Does not take me long to know if a handle will cause hotspots
6. Balance of the Blade-Was it cumbersome for a knife of its size
7. Edge Retention-Could it push cut newspaper after chopping. Any chips or rolling in the edge

This will not be WHO"S the OVERALL winner test--But more of a Which one is best at what test.

I hate the Camp Tramp and BK-7 handles while chopping with them(both belong to the wife)--so they will not score well on my list when chopping. She would rank both higher than say the Siegle SAR-which is 5/16" thick and too heavy for her--but it's my overall favorite knife at the current time.

Stay tuned--will post photos Sunday Night--with results

Testing photos and results from Fridays test in the Kitchen and Garage

Each knife cut up a Tomato and then a pear

Last photo shows how they ranked in cutting up those 2 fruits(Tomatos are a fruit)

The Blue Handled Custom(forgot maker)-has a handle put on by Justin of Ranger Knives won the best kitchen knife award today. It is not a very good chopper in the field and I use it mostly for martial art knife cutting drills below.

The Breeden Mega Tessa did better than expected as I did not make it for the kitchen.

There was not a lot of difference between the top and bottom knives--your results might have been completely different.

To be continued

Then I took all 6 into the Garage and cut up a few boxes

I was checking Handle comfort, retention, ease of cut,and accuracy of cut.

The last photo shows how they faired on the boxes

The top one is a Siegle SAR 6-my favorite knife.
It is the heaviest on the Group and is TWICE as thick as the Breeden.
The Breeden as not far behind--a true compliment to anyone that knows how much I love Bill Siegles knives. The Breeden is more the weight of a fighting knife than a Chopper
Might have Bryan make me a Mega Tessa HD(as in one made out of 1/4" thick steel)
The Blue Handled one and TOPS Apache Dawn tied for 3rd
Camp Tramp and BK-7 followed in that order(both belong to the wife)-I do not care for the handles on either.

There was also a small margin between the top and last place.

None of these are poor at cutting-slicing boxes or fruit.

Will test Wood Chopping ability-Carving-Etc this weekend--that is where I expect to see BIG differences

Stay Tuned

Hmmm, looks like you did thick slices on the toms... is that because all those knives are just too thick to be slicers or you were trying to make the same number of slices each time? You should be trying to slice translucent slices...

Thanks for doing this test!

Looking at the food all cut up makes me kind of hungry lol.
Glad to hear the Tessa did so well. If you want a thicker knife
maybe 5/16" thickness would a thickness to try:D.

Looking forward to the next testing phase.

All if the Knives are 3/16-5/16" thick

Or 2-3 times the thickness of most 1/8" and less kitchen knives.

I was not testing to see how thin I could make the slices--

I did a real world test of cutting the slices as fast as I could-while controlling the knife.

I was measuring control-handle comfort and ease of making each cut without trying to make the cut anything special.

Just grab and cut-as in to make a BLT sandwich.

I could have made the slices thinner but that would have demonstrated my skill more than the knife IMHO

My skill.....I can chop 5 times into the diameter of a raisin
PM me and I'll send you a Video

Tomorrow or Sunday I'll do a lot more chopping on both thick and thinner wood.

We might have you make a Mega Tessa HD(out of 5/16") next time

Took all 6 Ladies and Zeus and His daughter Heide out to Teds Land to continue the testing

First I did a CHOP OFF---15 Chops with each knife-Rest 2 minutes-Repeat with next knife

Camp Tramp WON--it was the longest and thickest blade-I HATE the handle when chopping -hurts my hand(The knife belongs to my wife)--but it did chop the best

Zeus and his daughter Hede(he is almost 5 and she is 1)

I have a patient with 200 acres that allows me to chop down all the mesquite and cedar trees I want
Looks like this

to be continued

Then I made 20 Slices into each end--trying to make a Spear Point

Breeden Won--knives shown in the order they finished

Going have Bryan make me a 1/4" or 5/16" version

It has the best handle next to the Siegle but it's too close to the others in size

It was the best in making fuzzsticks and 2nd best in the Kitchen too

Great Design and Great Handle

Will have Bryan make a longer thicker version and post photos of that test as well

Very cool, Bill. Glad to hear the Tessa did so well with the carving a point. Choppping is not one of my bid things with a knife lol.
I use a axe for that lol lol. But I like a knife to cut from food to carving on wood.
Yea just e-mail me and will can go over the makings of a thicker one.

Good stuff William! Yes, Bryan knows his way around a knife - I really like my 1/4" 0-1 6" bladed field knife. It's not quite on the size these big choppers are, but it will manage well enough for me!

I can't imagine a 5/16" version - that would be amazing - though add some length to it to balance a bit!

5/16" hell I thought 5/32" was good. Then again mine has only a 5' blade'
