Can anyone give me feedback or comments on the Brend/Branton Marauder folder (Ti handles and, S30V steel)? I realize its not one of the more popular custom folders but, its a nice looking knife and is wetting my appetite - though it falls short of equalling the artistical elegance of the fixed blade 25'th anniversary fighter model.

They are supposedly of the highest quality of manufacture. On a par with a Sebbie and that is saying something. keepem sharp

I think it would look much better without the big confederate flag on the blade. I assume it is a makers mark, but it is ugly, and a symbol that is offensive to many people.

That is Walter Brend's mark. It is also a symbol that many hold dear to their heart. Members of my family fought under that flag.

I know it is a makers mark. :)
It is also a symbol that has negative connotations. Many people might hold it dear to their heart, but many more people see it differently. I am not going to get into a political discussion about the symbol, but it is not one that I personally would want on anything I owned.

But Rat...

What if that girl in your sig had a little confederate flag tattoo on her rear end. I bet you'd make an exception! :)

Point taken Rat:)
Just wanted to support Walter.

In 1865 it was a symbol of honor and chivalry.

In the 20th Century some dimwitted slack jawed cretans used it for less honorable uses.

Walter is an honorable man who is of the same cut as those who fought under that falg from 1861 to 1865.

Another nice folder is Cutter's Knife & Tool brend #2

Back to the knife.........From what I've read, Mr Branton makes the handle and puts the knife together, while Mr. Brend constructs and finishes the blade. Does that mean this is a mid-tech knife? I've read a few articles dealing with mid-techs and it seems that they are a great way to get a near custom knife from some makers whose wait time is measured in years. I like the lines and it looks like a very heavy-duty folder.

I really like the knife!! And I take the mark to exactly what it is, Walter Brend's mark.

Nice knife, like the flag and all political disertations should be debated in the proper forum. Should never have been brought up here. keepem sharp

Looks like a great collection piece. I've held the fixed marauder & those handle curves are damn near perfect in hand. Haven't seen the price of this folder but I'm gonna guess an easy 350. If you got the cash for this I'd say jump on it & post some pics & a review for the captive audience :)

Thanks for the comments on the Marauder folder. It is a frame lock with a S30-V blade hand ground and finished by Walter. My retail price was $599.00 and I had to charge extra because I have to pay Walter to grind and finish the blades. As most of you already know, Walter does not work for free and it is quite a chore to get him to work on a batch of folder blades when he can make a $1,500.00 - $2,000.00 knife in the time it takes him to grind a handful of folder blades, plus he is no longer taking orders. I hope to release a more Mid Tech type folder that will be hand ground by me for approx $400.00 and that will depend on the titanium market. Titanium is going up quite a bit and some sizes are hard to find at this time.

BTW. If you have problems with Walter's logo, I would suggest that you take it up with him personally or by phone so that he can defend himself as this is not the proper forum for such a debate.

Thanks,

Bobby

Any ballpark figure on when such a mid-tech folder would be released? Also, will the current Marauder folder be limited to a certain number of pieces, or will it be produced as long as it sell? I would think that the price is right in line with the quality product you are receiving.

I don't have a problem with his logo, he can use whatever he wants- it just isn't my cup of tea. I wouldn't say it needs defending. I was just remarking on the looks of it. It is a beautiful knife and design.
