Brend Identification

So, I've inherited a significant knife collection from my late father.

Among these, I'm most interested in ascertaining the value of the Browning Damascuses and the Brends.

The Damascus knives I'll be able to do on my own - But there's precious little information floating around about Brends.

I'm unsure of how to measure knife blades, so I measured from the point to the bottom of the blade where it meets the handle, giving the longest length.

The larger of the two has a total length of roughly 13 3/4", blade 8 1/2".

The smaller (bottom) has a length of roughly 10 3/4", and a blade of 6 1/8".

The larger knife has the serial number 016, while the smaller is unmarked.

Any help is thoroughly appreciated.

Very fine examples of Brend's Model 2. Worth around ~$3000 each.

When Walter makes a new model or a model in a new type of steel he will often number the first knives, which explains the #16 on the 8.5" Model 2. The 8.5" is his flagship. The smaller 6" Model 2 is much less common.

Sorry for your loss...

Hi Deiz,

I would have emailed you but there was an administrative block.

Should you choose to dispose of these knives, I can help you with that.

Hi Deiz,

My condolences on your father's passing.

Brend is a "hot" maker so you shouldn't have much trouble finding buyers if you're looking to sell these instead of finding a value for insurance purposes. The first thing you should try is to contact Mr. Brend directly to get more information on these knives. I'm not sure if you're able to perform any searches but upgrading your membership on this forum would be worthwhile to get more info and you'd also be able to sell these in the exchange forum.

I'm no expert on these but the given figure by Charles is a good starting point. Being numbered and a rare size might command a premium to some collectors. They're fine examples and it appears that your dad cared for them lovingly.

The folks at bladegallery.com and knifeart.com are a couple of other dealers that I've had good dealings with and might be able to offer a premium for these. Weigh your options before you decide since it should not be too hard to find a buyer for these yourself, your dad had good taste.
