hi, i'm looking to get into the world of high end knives.

i've heard very good things about Brend knives, and i'm interested in the model 5 and especially the model 2, at any of the longer lengths.

i'm wondering what they go for on average?

i searched the forum but it looks like they dont come up for sale very often and being rare there are no past ebay sales to look at.

just looking for a ballpark estimate

thanks

I've seen the #2's go for 2500.00 and up. But if you check with various custom knife dealers you do run across them. But they are'nt cheap from what i've seen.

Welcome.

High end is relative.

At the top, you have the Art Knife Invitational makers, past and present.

After that, striated tiers. Walter Brend makes some nice knives, if that is what you consider high end. For the money though, I also like John Young.

For that kind of money I would get a piece from Jake Powning, although his is a completely different style.

With all due respect,

1. Do you have the money to buy a knife from Jake Powning?

2. Do you currently have a piece from Jake Powning?

3. Have you ever sold a piece from Jake Powning?

If the answer to two of the three questions is NO, it might be better for you to sit back and see how the thread unfolds.....I'm just glad that you didn't pipe in with "for that money, I would by a Marfione Masterpiece"(I'm a good friend of both Tony M.'s as well).

Man....people have an attitude in this forum lately. The fellow was just expressing his opinion.

I have a couple Brend knives and like them a lot. Great balance and fit my hands nicely.

But us folksy fold are so........folksy!!!

I do own non-traditional knives....I've just been scared to come out of the closet and admit it for fear the old folks in yonder forum will folksy me to death ;)

You can just lawyer up on them and scare them back to the dark ages.:D

Thanks for breakfast, again.

Walter Brend is an excellent maker.... I have one of his "daggers" with a MOP handle. The symmetry of the blade grind is superb, nothing short of perfection (as is the fit and finish of the knife as well)...
