I have a career milestone to celebrate and I'm thinking about doing it with my first custom/handmade slipjoint. I saw someone selling a Bret Dowell knife here, so I contacted the maker and really liked what he has to offer. Does anyone have one of his knives? Opinions?

I've been REALLY into the slipjoints I've been seeing lately like Ken Coats' knives with canvas Micarta, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to do tan, black or green canvas for handle material. Not 100% sure whether I'll go with bolsters or bolsterless yet. I really like Bret's dogleg pattern, so I may use that as a base model and see if he'll work with me on a few things. You can see his knives here:

Mine just came in today. 3 3/4 back pocket knife in green canvas micarta.
AWESOME KNIFE!!! I can't say enough about it f&f is spot on, snaps in each position.

On another note:
I had posted an "I'll take it" on it, but somebody actually beat me by a minute with a pm. I never checked my email before I called Brett in the morning ( he had sent one out right away to let me know that somebody had got to it before me ) to arrange payment. He could tell I was bummed and then asked me which one I would want from the web page with the folders( I had talked to him about a month before ). He then told me he would have it for me in a few days. Brett is a stand up guy who went above and beyond for me and the knife is absolutely perfect!!!

Order from him without hesitation, I know I will again!

You need to post some pics pronto!

Also...it's Bret...not Brett....I've made the same mistake myself. :D

+1, Bret builds a nice knife.

I have a 3.5" trapper (without liners). And recently ordered two 3.1" swaybacks without liners. Great nail nicks, very smooth to open, and very sharp.

I meant to ask him if his slip joints had pivot bushings.

Thanks for the correction.
I do have to get some pictures up, but it is the second to last knife on his folders page.
I can definitely see another one in the future.
