The other day I picked up a secondhand Bridgeport brand hatchet- one piece of steel with what appears to be a molded on hard rubber handle. From looking on Ebay, it appears that these were official Boy Scout issue at one time. Anyone know anything more about them?

Either way, it's one of the better $2.00 I've spent recently.

Hello, I have one with Hickory scales on it. Very nice user. I called the patent office and believe it or not, t:thumbup: hey faxed me a copy of the patent info. I do not remember all of the details. They were made I think in the thirties to 40's. The handle is actually welded the the head. I cannot find my info right now. Look at the patent number on the blade. Go to the patent office and type in the patent #. A picture should pull up with a detailed description. I will look around for my info. If you need further help, PM me and I will do what I can. I just found it. The application date is Oct. 14, 1929. Inventors were Arthur E. Keating and John A. Anderson.

A tank of an axe. Even Scouts couldn't put them totally out of action. Some purchased in the 1950's are still in action today. Darned heavy, though.
