Found the perfect briefcase in a Maxpedition MPB last year.....BUT.....it got splashed with bleach, and now it is relegated to rangebag duty.....so I got a replacement from L.A. Police gear, and the materials and dimensions have changed, and when an e-mail was sent to Max...this was the response, in part:

"The MPB has changed in many ways over the course of the past 6 years. The materials such as fabric, colors, and other components, also vary from batch to batch. We do this as a continued effort to improve our products. It seems the bag you got, has some idiosyncracies. However, from what we gather, those are a matter of personal preference rather than functional defect. We hope you can grow to love it as your other bag despite its idiosyncracies."

Loving the idiosyncracies is not what I do...I buy a new bag, and give a different company my $$

Please recommend me a briefcase....The heaviest duty black ballistic nylon available....no ripstop, no canvas, no leather.

I have been using this "Carry-on Travel Pack" from Mountain Equipment Co-op for 4 years now and love it. The photo is a bit misleading as it doesn't show it in "briefcase mode", the pack straps hide away in a zipper compartment in the back and it can be carried by the shoulder strap or handles. When the pack straps are tucked away it in no way resembles a pack. This is a great brief-case with tons of room, the zippers are heavy duty, and the material is 1680 ballistic nylon.

Why not canvas? Is it a looks thing? I have a Filson briefcase, and it is indestructable and looks great too.

I don't like canvas because it is too reactive.....gets wet, stinky(Filson cotton base always smells like old people to me), shrinks, expands... and I just never really trusted it, since I discovered ballistic nylon...which I find much more abrasion resistant.

This place has bags:

This place, but bags are more "tactical" than business

I am sure there's more but these are the only places I have conducted business with for this type of item.

Also check Zero Halliburton, I think they have/had a real heavy duty bag (but it's $450)

Redoxx and Tumi make very durable high quality briefcases. I managed an operation that made Cordura for Tumi, they were as demanding as NASA.

I have a Zero-Halliburton mini, it's slicker than an olympic bobsled. Had to stick a little pad or two on it for it to stay put on a fabric seat.

When had to apply the brakes hard and it would launch off the seat :)
