I want something that takes one CR123 and has a sturdy metal clip. Are there any lights like this that can be modded or come as is that throw more than 200 lumens on high?

raindog - great suggestion on the shining beam website - very cool lights and reasonable too!!!

Also check out www.malkoffdevices.com

I highly recommend considering using 18650 rechargables. The lights that fit them will be a bit bigger than the single-123 lights, but you'll get a lot more runtime, more than double.

When shopping for LED modules, look for XP-G emitters. They're the current top efficiency. Also consider what type of tint you want.

Personally I would go with a Ra Clicky 170. You can also go with 4sevens Quark 123 with an XPG.

My .02.

Bryan (shiningbeam) has his own line of lights under the "MG" label. His "L-Mini" which uses a single 18650 battery is arguably one of the best buys in the flashlight world. I have versions I & II. Version I has been kicking for two years and shows no sign of giving up and it's been used and abused in a very harsh environment. With the optional "Turbo-Head" it's an outstanding thrower for it's size.

If you want to go small and bright, grab one of his ITP 1XAA lights and stick a rechargeable 14500 battery in it. Keep in mind that this setup will get very hot on high after about a minute or two but it is Science Fiction bright. On medium it's a solid 70-80 lumens and heat is not an issue. Also you have the option of readily available AA batteries that will give you about 80 lumens on high vs the close to 200 lumens with the 14500.

From left to right:
L-Mini II (XP-E) - RX-I (MC-E) - L-Mini I (XP-E) - Quark Mini AA (XP-G)
The first three lights take 18650s or two primary CR123s.

Go to Dealextreme or just dx on google. Click on flashlights, then the type of battery you want to use.
Read the reviews and make a decision.
There a a lot of choices, including some of the ones that have been mentioned.

I think I'll end up getting 2 of these. That's a great deal!

not a 123, but i have a streamlight microstream that is pretty great, especially considering it is under $20.

simple interface, bright, tiny, and has a good pocket clip.

i love this light, and im a bit of a light snob. lots of surefires and nitecores.

I've really started liking 4-7's lights. 4sevens.com

I love Fenix's but I recently picked up a NiteCore Extreme Infinity E3R2 and WOW! great light 200 plus lumen's. Takes 1 CR-123 or the rechargeables equals. Very bright light for the size. Everyone that I show it to ends up buying one.

l like the nitecores because they are very bright, brighter than most other brands, and they are small.

but the circuitboards/switches are tempermental and the clip hardware is garbage. the tiny screw heads strip easily and they back out.
