Today was my first visit to the Brimfield, Mass. antique fair. I was hoping to find some nice old knives. Camp/scout knives were what I saw the most. Too bad those arent really my cup of tea. Sometimes a table or tent might have only had a few pocket knives but one was a gem. Other places had a few cases full of not much. Prices were generally good on what caught my eye.
Ulster TL-29 Full blade, good springs. Wood covers (walnut?) with TL-29 imprinted. Stamped ULSTER / KNIFE USA. I think this would make it after the Schrade/Imperial merger, so post WWII? Found this in my first hour and paid $5 for it. I could have found nothing else the rest of the day and been completely happy with this one.
Kent jack A solid knife with strong snap on both blades. Surface rust on the blades and the end bolsters. Covers are in nice shape. Some small dents and dings but most of the surface is still quite smooth. One end has shrunk a bit from the front bolster on the pile side. Stamped KENT / N.Y. CITY / USA. I dont much about Kent but as I recall it was the mark Camillus used for knives they made for Woolworths.
Camillus Rope Knife stamp would indicate its from the 40s to my knowledge. Nice action, strong snap to the open position. Some side to side wobble but not a big deal. Some nicks on the edge but nothing that couldnt be sharpened out with sufficient time. Wood covers. Missing the bail. I had been on the lookout for a rope knife like this so I'm very pleased to have found it.
Case 6235 1/2 3 dot knife from 1977. Blades do not appear to have ever been used. Nice walk and talk, rock solid. I was never that crazy about jacks like this that put the small blade behind the main but its in such nice shape I made an exception. I would initially figure the covers are delrin given the uniformity of the color, no variation like you might figure to see with dyed bone.
I will take and post more pictures at a later time but I'm kind of wiped out right now (left the house at 5:30 this morning and that's well out of my normal routine
