I will be travelling to Amazon in Peru and would like to bring a 5-6 inch fixed blade knife with me. Would I have any problems doing so? Of course it will be in my check in bags.

Keep it in checked baggage and no problem.I wouldnt even mention it unless they ask.Out of curiosity what kind are you takin and when ya goin?

I assume you will be flying into Lima, then on to Iquitos or Tarapoto for the Amazon? Take any knife you wish to take in your checked luggage, blade length doesn't matter. If by odd chance Customs does say anything just explain you're going to the jungle and they will let you pass on through. The only hassle I have ever had was the last trip in June. Delta Airlines freaked over all the big knives and solar chargers in my checked luggage (of course solar chargers with sealed battery packs do look like some type of improvised bomb). I got pulled and searched but after I explained everything they let the bag pass.

When are you going to be there? We are headed back at the end of September and again in October with clients for the Air Force Survival School.

how could post a question like that and not tell us what knife you are taking?

:D :D :D

well, what knife are you taking?

good luck

Thanks for your feedback.

I am thinking of taking either a Fallkniven A1, TOPS Firestorm or a Cold Steel Bushmaster. Also a SAK.

Will be taking a Delta flight to Lima then to Iquitos. Will be half camping/survival ( very basic)training and trekking trip.

I picked up the A1 in Australia while travelling there and took alot on internal flights and returnrd home with no problems. No idea of what to expect when entering a country especially one like South America. I got really searched when I arrived in Oz the took everything apart.

I really wanted to have a fixed blade with me was also thinking of purchasing a knife in Peru if there was going to be a big issue bring one over.

If any of you think of a better knife to bring over let me know.

I would go with the A-1.

which sak? I would suggest fieldmaster or trailmaster!

you have got to let us know how it goes.

for all of us who live vicariously through the internet.

good luck
